HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 08-7039 - Application Vehicle Speed Feedback Signs-OTS Federal GrantRESOLUTION NO. 08-7039 ( A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY APPROVING THE SUBMiTrAL OF FUNDING APPLICATION FOR “VEHICLE SPEED FEEDBACK SIGNS” UNDER THE OFFICE OF TRAFFIC SAFETY FEDERAL FISCAL YEAR 2009 GRANT YEAR. WHEREAS, the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) was established as a result of the creation of the Traffic Safety Program, formed in 1967 by the State Legislature to carry out the direction of the National Highway Safety Act ; and WHEREAS, each year, the Highway Safety Plan (HSP) is developed by OTS to reflect the current needs and details the planned use of federal funds and identifies problems, specific performance measures, proposed solutions, time frames and fiscal information on existing and planned new grants that are designed to mitigate traffic safety problems; and WHEREAS, projects may be submitted for consideration of OTS funding under eight program priority areas earmarked for grant funding, including Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety and Roadway Safety; and WHEREAS, OTS is soliciting project applications for the Federal Fiscal Year 2009 grant year; and [ WHEREAS, the City of Downey desires to install vehicle speed feedback signs at various locations citywide as an educational tool to discourage speeding; and WHEREAS, each agency is required to submit an application to OTS for each project; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. To approve the submittal of the “Vehicle Speed Feedback Signs” application for OTS funding. SECTION 2.That the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution.
