HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 07-6982 - Approve Applications for Funding - Highway Safety Improvement ProgramRESOLUTION NO. 07-6982 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY APPROVING THE SUBMII-rAL OF THE “VEHICLE SPEED FEEDBACK SIGNS”. “PEDESTRIAN COUNTDOWN INDICATORS” AND “SCHOOL AREA AND PEDESTRIAN CROSSING SIGNAGE REPLACEMENT” APPLICATIONS FOR FUNDING UNDER THE HIGH WAY SAFETY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM (HSIP). WHEREAS, the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) was established as a result of the passage of the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) federal funding program; and WHEREAS, the HSIP is a program intended to fund the implementation of projects which improve roadway safety; and WHEREAS, Caltrans is soliciting project applications for the HSIP for Federal Fiscal Year 2006-07; and WHEREAS, the City of Downey desires to install vehicle speed feedback signs at various locations citywide as an educational tool to discourage speeding; install pedestrian countdown indications at signalized intersections to enhance pedestrian safety and replace signage within the City’s school areas and at pedestrian crossings in accordance with the California Manual of Traffic Control Devices; and [WHEREAS, each agency is required to submit an application to Caltrans for each project ; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. To approve the submittal of the “Vehicle Speed Feedback Signs”, “Countdown Pedestrian Indications” and “School Area and Pedestrian Crossing Signage Replacement" applications for HPIS funding.
