A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
DOWNEY APPROVING THE SUBMITTAL OF THE
“WOODRUFFAVENUE PEDESTRIAN IMPROVEMENTS”.
“BLODGErr AVENUE PEDESTRIAN IMPROVEMENTS“
AND“SIGNALIZED CROSSWALK RELOCATION ON IMPERIAL
HIGHWAY AT LA REINA AVENUE” APPLICATIONS FOR SAFE
ROUTES TO SCHOOL FUNDING.
WHEREAS, in 2004 SB 1087 extended the Safe Routes to School (SR2S) Program for
three additional years until 2008; and
WHEREAS, the SR2S Program is a construction program intended to improve and
enhance the safety of pedestrian related infrastructure to improve conditions for children in
kindergarten through eighth grade to safely walk and bicycle to and from school; and
WHEREAS, Caltrans is soliciting project applications for the 7th funding cycle (Year
2006) of the SR2S Program; and
WHEREAS, the City of Downey desires to construct improvements on Woodruff Avenue
between Florence Avenue and Eglise Avenue, Blodgett Avenue between Donovan Street and
Alameda Street and the intersection of Imperial Highway at La Reina Avenue to enhance
pedestrian safety on school routes; and

WHEREAS, each agency is required to submit an application to Caltrans for each
project
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. To approve the submittal of the “Woodruff Avenue Pedestrian
Improvements”, “Blodgett Avenue Pedestrian Improvements” and “Signalized Crosswalk
Relocation on Imperial Highway at La Reina Avenue" applications for SR2S funding.
SECTION 2.That the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution.
