A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY ADOPTING
A CLASS SPECIFICATION AND ESTABLISHING A SALARY RANGE FOR
TRAINING COORDINATOR.
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to establish a new part-time position
in the Police Department to cover police training and community outreach programs.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The class specification for Training Coordinator, attached hereto, and by
this reference, is hereby adopted.
SECTION 2. The Classification of Training Coordinator shall have the pay grade of
06-198
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution.
APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 24TH day of October, 2006.

City of Downey Class Specification
TRAINING COORDINATOR
DEFINITION
To coordinate training for all police department personnel. This position would represent the
police department in public venues and neighborhood meetings providing community
awareness and safety presentations.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Review and maintain lists of current training classes for department personnel, making
recommendations as appropriate.
Remain current on all training requirements established by the California POST Commission.
Audit training files and make recommendations to ensure the department meets or exceeds all
POST training requirements.
Maintain written and computerized training records.
Make public presentations related to the Downey Police Department promoting community
awareness and public safety and other important department activities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required
skills, knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the skiils, knowledge
and abilities would be:
Experience :
Educations:
Previous employment in a police agency or related Held.
High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate.
Knowledge of:Police procedures and investigative techniques, penal code of California,
California POST Commission, police training requirements.
Ability to:Effectively communicate orally to public groups in English and Spanish,
respond effectively and accurately to public inquiries on police related
subject matter in a courteous and helpful manner, understand training
requirements and needs for sworn and non-sworn police personnel and
make recommendations based on this understanding, create and present
training materials using PowerPoint or similar presentation software, work
with minimal supervision and direction.
License Required:Valid California driver’s license.

General supervision provided by a Police Sergeant.
