A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
APPROVING THE SUBMITTAL OF AN APPLICATION FOR AN
INTEGRATED REGIONAL WATER MANAGEMENT PLANNING GRANT
PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 8 OF THE WATER SECURITY, CLEAN DRINKING
WATER, COASTAL AND BEACH PROTECTION ACT OF 2002
(PROPOSITION 50).
WHEREAS, the Water Security, Clean Drinking Water, Coastal and Beach Protection
Act (Proposition 50), and amendments thereto, authorizes the California Department of Water
Resources to issue grants for the development and implementation of strategies and projects that
protect communities from drought, protect and improve water quality, and improve local water
security by reducing the dependence on imported water; and
WHEREAS, this City Council recognizes the importance of integrated planning with
other groundwater rights holders within the Central Groundwater Basin; and
WHEREAS, this City Council recognizes the importance of providing the highest
quality drinking water to its residents; and
WHEREAS, this City Council recognizes the importance of groundwater storage
projects and their potential future benefit to the City; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of this City to submit an eligible project for the
integrated management planning grant;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. To approve the submittal of an application, pursuant and subject to all of
the terms and provisions of The Water Security, Clean Drinking Water, Coastal and Beach
Protection Act of 2002, and amendments thereto, by the City of Downey to the California
Department of Water Resources to obtain a groundwater storage and groundwater treatment
project planning grant.
SECTION 2. To authorize and direct the Director of Public Works to prepare the
necessary data, make investigations, sign, and file such application with the California
Department of Water Resources.
SECTION 3. That the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution and
transmit two certified copies to the Public Works Department for processing.
