Downey City Council meetings are held the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:30
p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall. Council Members are elected to four-year terms
from their respective districts. Elections are held in November of even -numbered years, on
the same date as the Statewide General Election. Council Members are limited to two terms
of office. The Mayor is appointed in December by the City Council.

BOARD BUILDING APPEALS
PURPOSE The purpose of this Board is to hear and decide appeals of decisions
made by the Building Official in connection with the application or the
interpretation of the California Building Code and other ordinances,
regulations and policies governing the building requirements of the
City. The Board shall consist of five members. Each member shall be
qualified pertaining to building construction and the California Building
Code

PLANNING COMMISSION
PURPOSE The Planning Commission recommends to the City Council the
adoption, amendment orrepeal of Master, General or Precise Plans for
the physical development of the City. It also makes recommendations

PUBLIC FACILITIES FINANCING CORPORATION

RECREATION AND COMMUNITY
SERVICES COMMISSION
PURPOSE The Recreation and Community Services Commission recommends to
the City Council such plans and programs as may be desirable for the
improvement, maintenance and expansion of parks and playgrounds as
are or may hereafter be established. Members of this Commission are
annually required to complete a Statement of Economic Interest - Form
