HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-16-2021 - Minutes (Signed)Present: Beverly Mathis, Chair; Kimberly Hayes; Ana da Silva Absent: Dan Martin, Library Administrator; Irma Saavedra; Lenora Perri Staff and Guests Present: Benjamin Dickow, Library Director; Eva Landeros, Library Assistant; Virginia Yoshiyama, FODCL President; Mr. Dickow reported that on February 25, 2021, the library will begin getting deep cleaned by the contractors. After the deep cleaning is completed, the Architecture Firm will be taking photos of the library that can be used for zdvertising and other helpful library purposes. Mr. Dickow announced the organizational activities of full-time and part-time employees that would remain throughout the month of March and possibly April. He stated that there was a possibility to resume library services remotely or curbside service at the beginning of April. Mr. Dickow mentioned Claudia Dailey and the programmi 11 team moving forward with new online programming. For the time being, Mr. Dickow informed that programming will be done virtually until public is allowed to be in the building. Mr. Dickow communicated that the week of February 16, 2021 was budget week. The library would be submitti their first draft of their operating budget • Friday, February 19, 2021 to the City • Downey. 0 Library Advisory Board — Minutes for February 16, 2021 "Igniting a Community of Creative and Critical Thinkers" Lastly, Mr. Dickow informed that library board members would be able to schedule a walk-through of the library with 2 persons at a time. President Yoshiyama commenced with greeting everyone at the meeting and welcoming Member da Silva. She informed that Nancy Crispy and her daughter printed out about 300 special flyers to send out to current members, and members that have not renewed their membership. President Yoshiyama announced that the Friends had received 19 renewals and donations from various people that estimates about $445. Mr. Dickow intervened to inform that due to the need to be allowed when the dee�s cleaning is comil President Yoshiyama thanked Mr. Dickow for the update. I President Yoshiyama thanked Mr. Martin for giving a virtual tour of the library on February 12, 2021 during the Friends Meeting. She was able to provide several pictures for the Friends section on the Downey City Library website that were given to her by Mr. Martin. Lastly, President Yoshiyama announced that the Friends would like to continue their membership drives and was hopeful to receive new memberships. She informed that all the Little Libraries in Downey have membership forms. President Yoshiyama invited all to join the Ralphs Rewards and Amazon for the Friends to continue receiving donations. Board Business: 5. Library Construction ProJect — Design Update Review: Mr. Dickow informed that on February 12, 2021 two punch list items were remaining. He announced that the deep cleaning • the library was pushed back • a week and will start • February 25, 2021. Mr. Dickow stated that after the cleaning is done, the completion should be done to receive the keys of the library in March. Mr. Dickow mentioned scheduling board members on February 24, 2021 to do a walk-through of the library. Mr. Dickow reported that Chair Mathis has been leading since previous Chair Betty Monroy left, however an election needs to done soon. Chair Mathis commented that once the 2 new board members join, an item would need to be added on the agenda for the election. Mr. Dickow announced that Member da Silva has a group from work that meets at 7:00 p.m. and would like to know if the meeting start time can change to 600 p.m. Member da Silva stated that she meets with her group from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. and usually joins at 6:45 p.m. Mr. Dickow stated that getting in touch with other board members and confirming if it is not a problem would be best to do. However, he would also be confirming if a voting needs to take place to make any changes. Mr. Dickow discussed having library tours on February 24, 2021 with the Advisory Board Members. He would be scheduling tours of 30 minutes to two board members at a time. Chair Mathis asked the times that tours would be given and Mr. Dickow responded that tours would be done in the afternoon.
