REGULAR MEETING - LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD
OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
APRIL 2, 2021
The Library Advisory Board held a regular meeting at 6:00 p.m., April 20, 2021 Via Zoom Tele Conference, 1 1 1 1 1
Brookshire Ave., Downey, California.
Absent: Beverly Mathis, Chair; Dan Martin, Library Administrator; Irma Saavedra
Staff and Guests Present: Benjamin Dickow, Library Director; Eva Landeros, Library Assistant; Virginia
Yoshiyama, FODCL President;
Welcome to Members and Guests:
Member Hayes called the meeting to order at 6:06 p.m. o was ca c an a quorum was veri ie . Mem er Hayes
welcomed members and guest.
Written Communications:
1. The minutes of January 19, 2021, February 16, 2021, March 16, 2021, and April 20, 2021 were reconsidered by
Mr. Dickow for the next meeting on May 18, 2021.

President •, shiyama commenced with greeting • ` . She announced that the Friends new - •ii
volunteers. She informed that the Friends are looking into opening to the public in mid-June. President Yoshiyama
mentioned that there was lots to •• and training volunteers ••
Mr. Dickow commented that the library is working with the Friends to secure furniture and other items to help them
with the store. President Yoshiyama thanked Mr. Dickow.
Lastly, President Yoshiyama shared that she helped Claudia at the Bunny Hop Event and many parents and children
were happy to see Claudia Dailey.

Mr. Dickow communicated that the majority of construction was done. He said that clean up items remained and
were being taken care of by Public Works. Mr. Dickow mentioned that library staff was putting in the finishing
touches of the organization by testing out all hand held devices and making sure all technology worked by May •
serve the public

Member Da Silva questioned if the library was taking donations and if there was a criteria for donations. Presiden
Yoshiyama responded that the Friends were not ready to take any new donations. She stated that the Bookstore
Director, Ramie Johnson needed to finish going through boxes that were in storage. President Yoshiyama inforntne I
that an announcement would be shared in the newspaper when donations were being accepted. 0
Member Da Silva questioned if the library handled e-waste and shredding events or if it was another department in
the city. Mr. Dickow responded that other departments in the city promoted the event as well as other service
organizations around town. He also informed that once the library opens to the public, the library would want to be
a hub for informing the public about such events.
Mr. Dickow informed that the library would • getting new library cards in the next weeks. Lastly, Mr. Dickow
stated that all departments have band together this year for events and worked together which he hopes that the tre
continues after the pandernic. I
