HomeMy WebLinkAbout8-17-21 - Minutes (Signed)Staff and Guests Present: Benjamin Dickow, Library Director; Eva Landeros, Library Assistant; Virginia Yoshiyama, FODCL President Mr. Dickow reported that the library was poised to get all their computers in very soon. He communicated that the library was getting around 90 computers from a few different funds, all for public use. Mr. Dickow stated that there was a delay • the computers because of the supply chain back up. He explained that staff would give him a copy to review. Once he reviews, policies get sent back to the city attorney, and then she will review them to sign off. Once the city attorney signs off the policies, Mr. Dickow would then give copies to the board members for them to review. Mr. Dickow said that policies would be finalized by city council, possibly in October. —hair Mathis asked when the library anticipated to have the Workshop ready. Mr. Dickow responded that possibly • the end • summer. He shared that local libraries are not at 100% and seemed like libraries were aiming for September 1, 2021. Mr. Dickow informed that the Workshop has 3-D Printing and the Studio is all digital. Member Saavedra questioned if story time had a closing date for registration. Mr. Dickow answered that for th- •- • e was not because the space outside was manageable, however, for Zoom, he would need to contact Claudia to find out. Member Saavedra thanked Mr. Dickow and commented that the information for registration would be helpful to provide to guest that are entering the library with children. Mr. Dickow asked board members if they all signed and turned in their board member letters to Downey City Hall. All board members replied with a yes. LOUMMEM211111491., President Yoshiyama commenced with Ralph's quarterly report • March 1, 2021 to May 31, 2021 with 31 household participants in the rewards. She announced that the Friends received a check of $124.96. President Yoshipama in-formed that the bookstore i ' r re-o( - c ened with P-264.56 and lceoj%le bought items • the shelves WAing tj exact price as they did not have cash to exchange. I President Yoshiyama reported that they have slowly been receiving donations. She mentioned that the Friends were waiting on their shelves to continue emptying out boxes, as well as their tables that would be getting dropped off on Friday morning, June 18, 2021. President Yoshlyama stated that staff member Ernesto Mercado would be helping them move stuff. Mr. Dickow stated that people tend to look at the Friends Bookstore first than the Information Desk. President Yoshiyama shared that the flowers on the counter had been donated by a member that has her own garden. Board Member Comments: Mr. Dickow thanked President Yoshiyama and the Friends for the great ribbon cutting event. He also mentioned Claudia Dailey did a fantastic job decorating for the event. Member Hayes questioned if laptops were sanitized after use. Mr. Dickow stated that laptops were sanitized by staff. Member Saavedra asked the time limit for computer usage. Mr. Dickow responded that laptops were available for two hours. Member Lenora questioned if laptops were only to be used inside the library. Mr. Dickow replied that they are to be used only in the library and maybe in the near future with Chromebooks, they would be able to be used outside the library. Member Saavedra inquired about the Study Room time limit. Mr. Dickow responded that the max time was 2 hours, however, an additional slot would be acceptable. Member She mentioned that there was no signage for the female and mate restroom. Mr. Dickow commented that signage was being taken care of. Member Saavedra questioned if the library would be getting a clock. Mr. Dickow shared that most of the staff think the clock would create more of a problem for the public.
