3. Library Director's Report:
Mr. Dickow thanked everyone for joining and thanked new board member Lenora Perri. He asked Member Perri to
share about herself and her interest of being a board member. Member Perri introduced herself as a resident of
Downey and as a Judicial Assistant for the Norwalk Superior Court. She shared her experience in a library as a child
7nd her educational background. Lastly, Member Perri mentioned she is married and has two adult children. Mr. —
Dickow thanked Member Perri for her introduction.
Mr. Dickow reported that the library has been busy preparing to open to the public. He stated that programming has
continued and the City Wide Easter Candy Distribution was being planned. Mr. Dickow mentioned that books are
on the shelves and new equipment was being tried out. He informed that staff were working in pods for the morning
and afternoon shifts. Mr. Dickow acknowledged Claudia Dailey, Andrew Despres, Ernesto Mercado and all full-
time staff for their hard work since returning back to library.
Mr. Dickow announced that the library was working towards curbside lending service at the beginning of April * He
mentioned that patrons would be able to call, email, or search the catalog online to request books. Mr. Dickow said

Member Perri asked what the advisory board members would be doing for the Easter Drive thru. Mr. Dickow
answered that there would be a station at the Stonewood Mall parking lot and members will be giving candy to cars
Xassing by. Member Perri shared that she is a Lion Club member and is great at fundraising.
Lastly, Mr. Dickow informed that today, March 16, 2021 marked two years that the library closed to the public for
construction.
4. Friends of the Downey City Library (FODCL) Report.
President Yosbiyama informed the board members that there were 75 paid up memberships for the year 2021 and
new memberships were being accepted for the whole year. She encouraged board members to get a membership and
mentioned the cost of $15 for individuals and $25 for a family. President Yoshiyama reported that people were
shopping more on Amazon and they received a check for $47.84.
President Yoshiyama announced that the bookstore would need to make a change in a few months when they open,
She said they only have one volunteer at a time and with the new design of the bookstore, a second volunteer may
possibly be needed.

Mr. Dickow reported that there were still a few minor touch up items remaining on construction. He communicated
that one of the biggest development was the electronic card readers for the doors to the staff area. Mr. Dickow
shared that everything else had fallen into place and receiving the keys was still pending. Lastly, he announced that
the coffee cart would be reactivating.

Mr. Dick•w informed that for the next board meeting, there would ♦ business to discuss as the library is moving
into resuming operation. Also, he shared that any full-time • part-time employee deserves a big pat in the back for
their extremely hard work.
Member Perri questioned what was the goal for memberships and President Yoshiyama responded to get as many I
memberships as possible. President Yoshiyama commented that every year 200 memberships get renewed. Membi
Perri asked if there was a membership pamphlet that can be passed out during the Easter event. President
Yoshimaya stated that she would communicate with Ms. Dailey to handout memberships during the Easter event.
