CALL TO ORDER Public Works Committee Chair Gendreau called the meeting to order at 4:00 P.M. Mr. Anthony Jones and Mr. Kevin Ezeh were introduced as newly appointed Public Works committee members representing Dist. 2 and Dist. 3, respectively. II. FLAG SALUTE – Chair Gendreau III. CONSENT CALENDAR Committee Member Pemberton made a motion to approve the minutes of the June 17, 2021 meeting and to amend the quorum necessary to approve the minutes for the said meeting only. The motion was seconded by Committee Member Sanchez. The Minutes were approved as written. IV. OLD BUSINESS - None V. NEW BUSINESS 1. Presentation of the FY 2021-22 Capital Improvement Program Mr. Norris gave a presentation on the FY 2021-22 Capital Improvement Program. Mr. Norris highlighted on recently completed projects, goals and funding (by source and category) for the streets, traffic safety, facilities, water and sewer and stormwater project categories. Other upcoming projects were also discussed. MINUTES OF THE PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE July 15, 2021 Page 2 VI. PUBLIC COMMENTS ON REGULAR MEETING AGENDA AND NON AGENDA ITEMS 1. Comments/discussion regarding the speeding problem on Prichard Street (E/W) between Barlin Avenue and Castana Avenue. Residents request the City to consider installing speed humps in response to a recent incident involving a traffic collision. Staff will evaluate/investigate the situation and request. VII. PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE COMMUNICATIONS 1. Median at Imperial Hwy and Lakewood Blvd. going westbound between Barlin Avenue and Lakewood Blvd. parts of the curb are missing from the center island median. Staff will investigate. 2. Inquiry regarding any upcoming plans or project to install sidewalks on Rives Avenue between 7th Street and Florence Avenue past Furman Park. 3. Inquiry regarding use and effectiveness of license plate scanners. 4. Comments were made regarding a recent accident that happened on Firestone Blvd. in the eastbound direction towards the I-605 Fwy where it intersects with Stewart & Gray Road where a motorist reportedly made a left turn while travelling eastbound on Firestone Blvd. onto Newville Ave. towards Rio San Gabriel Park even though this left-turn movement is prohibited. Staff will investigate if signage is clearly seen by motorists and, if necessary, replace with bigger and more visible signage. VIII. STAFF COMMUNICATIONS – None. IX. NEXT MEETING: August 19, 2021 The Public Works Committee meeting was adjourned at 5:46 P.M.
