CONSUNJI, P.E., DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS -IC ENkEER DATE: JUNE 9, 2020 SUBJECT: AWARD CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR THE PARAMOUNT BOULEVARD AT DE PALMA STREET AND FIRE STATION 1 TRAFFIC SIGNAL INSTALLATIONS, CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECT (CIP) NO. 20-32 That the City Council: Award a construction contract in the amount of $279,536 to Select Electric, Incorporated for the Paramount Boulevard at De Palma Street and Fire Station 1 Traffic Signal Installations, CIP No. 20-32; and 2, Authorize Public Works additional scope of wo0i approved project budget. On April 28, 2020, the City Council approved the plans (Attachments A) and specifications and authorized staff to advertise for bids for the Paramount Boulevard at De Palma Street and Fire Station 1 Traffic Signal Installations. This project consists of the installation of a new traffic signal at the Paramount Boulevard at De Palma Street intersection and new emergency fire signal on Paramount Boulevard at the Fire Station 1 driveway. The project was advertised for bids in the Downey Patriot on April 30, 2020 and May 7, 2020, posted on Planet Bids on April 30, 2020, and published in various trade publications. On May 28, 2020, the City Clerk received and publicly opened ten bids ranging from $279,536 to $403,410. The bid results were as follows: CONTRACTOR Select Electric, Inc. Select Electric has satisfactorily completed similar projects for the Cities of Downey, Los Angeles, Oceanside and San Diego. The company's references have been checked and were satisfactory. In addition, Select Electric's State of California contractor's license is current and active. Finally, Select Electric and its subcontractors are registered with the California Department of Industrial Relations under the Public Works Contractor Registration Program for Labor Compliance. Staff recommends that the City Council award a contract in the amount of $279,536 to Select Electric, Incorporated for Paramount Boulevard at De Palma Street and Fire Station 1 Traffic Signal Installations, CIP No. 20-32. Construction is anticipated to begin in July 2020 and be completed in December 2020.
