Approve Parade Permit & Street Closure Application - Downey Chamber of Commercem-ii10 C+a ! 2 1 to i ki to]i FROM: OFFICE OF JUDDY MONTENEGRO, It is recommended that the City Council approve the Parade Permit/Street Closure Application submitted by the Downey Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber of Commerce sponsors an annual holiday parade, which travels south along Downey Avenue, between Lexington and Third Street. The parade is scheduled for Sunday, December 1, 2019. For the fourth year in a row, a 5K Run will be included as part of the event. The 5K will begin at 9:00 a.m., originating from the Civic Center area. The run is expected to conclude by 11:00 a.m., which will allow for the reopening of some of the streets at the same time that other streets will be closed for the Chamber's Holiday Parade, which will begin at 1:00 p.m. and is expected to conclude before 4:00 p.m. Proposed Downey Avenue be completely closed to all traffic from11 a.m. to 01 • • o parking" • be posted for Downey Avenue •urs in advance. Pending approval of the road closures by the City Council, the City will use its own social media channels, the City's website and the City's lobby monitors, to increase public awareness of the closures as well. Staff from Police, Fire, and Public Works departments have reviewed the details of the events and provided input as to safety, logistical, and financial considerations. The Chamber of Commerce has submitted the necessary insurance requirements. The event costs are estimated at $15,345 (approximately $10,500 for police services and $4,845 for public works costs). Quality of Life, Neighborhood & Infrastructure Public Engagement There is no fiscal impact.
