That the City Council waive admission fees to the Columbia Memorial Space Center for
all guests during operating hours on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, to celebrate the
Space Center's 10th Anniversary
The Columbia Memorial Space Center (CMSC) opened to the public on October 23,
2009, 10 years ago. Since opening, the Center has become a vital hub of activity for the
City and a leader in regional initiatives regarding STEM education. It has welcomed
hundreds of thousands of visitors since opening and is embarking on an exciting
expansion of its mission and location so it may inspire thousands more in its next 10
years. The Space Center would like to mark this momentous occasion and thank the
Downey community that has supported it for 10 years by offering free admission on its
birthday. The Center also will use the celebration that day to launch a year-long 10th
Anniversary initiative to celebrate well into 2020. Staff is recommending that the City
Council approve the waiving of admission fees to the CMSC on Wednesday, October
23, 2019, during the hours of operation 10am-5pm.
