APPROVED 13Y TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL CITY FVIANAGER • OFFICE OF JUDDY MONTENEGRO, MANAGEMENT SUBJECT; RUN FOR YOUR LIFE 5K STREET CLOSURE PERMIT — OCTOBER 19, 2019 That the City Council approve the Street Closure Permit Application submitted by the City of Bell Gardens for the closure of Suva Street, between Bluff Road and Scout Avenue, for their "Run for Your Life 5K" event. The City of Bell Gardens will be hosting its first ever "Run for Your Life 5K" on Saturday, October 19, 2019. The event focuses on fitness and wellness, and in addition to a 5K run/walk, will feature activities such as health booths, stretch zones, yoga sessions, food booths, and live entertainment. The 5K route will take place primarily within the City of Bell Gardens, with brief access into Downey, off of Bluff Road and Suva Street. The City of Bell Gardens is requesting Downey's approval to close Suva Street, between Bluff Road and Scout Avenue, from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Downey Police and Fire departments have reviewed the layout and logistics of this event and recommend the approval of the street closure, as long as there is emergency vehicle access onto Suva Street. City of Bell Gardens staff confirmed that in the event of an emergency, there will be at least 20' access through the route for emergency vehicles on public streets, including Suva Street. Additionally, the City of Downey is requesting that Bell Gardens Police Department be positioned at the intersection of Bluff Road and Suva Street, to allow immediate access onto Suva in the event of an emergency. • • Public_. _ FISCAL IMPACT There is no fiscal impact associated with this item, as the City of Bell Gardens is fully responsible for this event. Aztlan strives to help organizations be sustainable in their benefiting events by offering all -in -one services needed, while exploring ways of minimizing costs in order to increase net proceeds for i The City of Bell Gardens has partnered with Aztlan Athletics to build a special SK RunMalk event on October 19, 2019. The most important assets of an event of this caliber is the city staff, police department, fire department to name a few. In relation to the event and the streets that will be utilized for the run, through the feedback from designated City of Bell Gardens staff, we can develop a route that will minimize impact on the community while it also covers historic and iconic areas in the city. (Be in position in the recommended areas) The event registration and festivities will begin at 6:15 AM. The start of the first run (kids % mile & Senors stroll will begin promptly at 8:00 AM), followed by the start of the Inaugural 5K at 8:00 AM at the corner of Perry and Loveland Street. Aztlan Athletics course managers Will stage parade style barricades, 3611 cones & cross bars, with directional signs at 4:00 AM, and set-up the equipment by 5:30 A.M. We will have one staff at each entry point to allow cars to leave their residence and redirect traffic if needed. We Once runners/ walkers in the SK start the run, the street will b opened to traffic, which we anticipate will be at 9:46 A.M. i The northbound side of Garfield will be used between 8A- 8:45 A.M. as runner/walker cover the route. At 8:00 AM, the kids 1/2mile will depart from two locations (Clara & Garfield and Suva & Scout Ave.). Both run / jog/ walk events will head towards Perry & Loveland which is the official finish of all the divisions. The 5K will travel South on Garfield toward Park Lane, then turn left (East) and enter the parking to at Ford Park, where participants will cover the park and make their way pf n towards of RioHondo riverbedjust northof the pond. This segment of the route will be picked up promptly by Aztlan Athletics course managers as they will be trailing the last walker who will enter • park at approximately8:50 AM.
