Approve plans and specifications and authorize implementation of the Maintenance Pad for Fire Trucks Project, Capital Improvement Project No. 19-37-01A; 2. Authorize City Manager to execute contract agreements for this project in a form acceptable by City Attorney; and 3. Authorize the Director of Public Works to execute any change orders or additional scope of work for this project as deemed necessary up to the approved project budget. As part of the Measure S funded Infrastructure and Facilities Improvement Program, all four City of Downey fire stations are scheduled to be renovated. The Infrastructure and Facilities Improvement Program is a very robust and fast -paced program and the renovation projects must be completed in a timely fashion to minimize impacts to residents and services. At its meeting of January 22, 2019, the City Council approved plans and specifications and authorized solicitation for construction bids for the first phase of the Fire Station renovations, which includes the expansion and modernization of Fire Station Nos. 1 and 3. On March 26, 2019, the City Council awarded a construction contract for Fire Station Nos. 1 and 3 Modernization and Expansion projects. In order to commence modernization and expansion work at Fire Station Nos. 1 and 3, the entire operations currently conducted out of the fire stations must be relocated to other facilities. The majority of Fire Department services from Fire Station Nos. 1 and 3 are being relocated to a Temporary Fire Station located at the northwest corner of Bellflower Boulevard and Washburn Road. However, the maintenance of Fire Department trucks and equipment currently being performed at Fire Station No. 1 must also be relocated. It is recommended that the maintenance of Fire Department trucks and equipment be relocated to the City's Maintenance Yard as shown on Attachment A. CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECT NO. 19-37-01A MAINTENANCE PAD FOR FIRE TRUCKS PROJECT MAY 14, 2019 PAGE 2 As part of the relocation of Fire Department fleet maintenance operations, a structural concrete pad needs to be constructed in order to accommodate and support heavy loads of fire apparatus and equipment. Design has been completed and the project is now ready for solicitation of construction bids through an informal bidding process to expedite the work. The work consists of sawcutting and removal of existing asphalt pavement; unclassified excavation; removal of existing subgrade material; construction of reinforced concrete pad and asphalt pavement transitions; and appurtenant work. In addition, this project will relocate a shade canopy cover and install electrical service. Upon approval, staff will immediately proceed with soliciting bids for construction. Project completion is anticipated in June 2019.
