CONSUNJI, P.E., DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS, CITY ENGINE ]z RECOMMENDATION That the City Council adopt: w A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY APPROVING RATE ADJUSTMENTS FOR SOLID WASTE SERVICES PROVIDED BY CALMET SERVICES, INC. TO RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL CUSTOMERS On March 12, 2019, the City Council adopted Resolution No' 19-7873 approving CalMet Services, Inc.'s (CalMet) annual rate adjustments for solid waste and recycling services to residential and commercial customers. The agreement with CalMet includes provisions for CalMet to request rate adjustments on an annual basis for the rates to be effective on April 1st. The adopted Resolution inadvertently listed the rate for the extra pick-up for a two -cubic yard (2 CY) commercial service trash bin as $0.71; the correct rate for that service is $ 70.71. In addition, the rate for once -a -week service for a sixty- five (65) gallon organic recycling bin was incorrectly listed as $89.93; the correct rate for that service is $89.32. Staff is recommending that the City Council rescind Resolution 19-7873 and adopt the attached revised Resolution with the correct rate adjustments. Fiscal Responsibility Quality of Life, Infrastructure & Parks AMENDMENT CALMET RATE ADJUSTMENT REQUEST MARCH 26, 2019 PAGE 2 FISCAL IMPACT There is no fiscal impact to the City from the proposed rate increases. The rate increases for solid waste collection services will •.: passed through to the residential and commercial customers utilizing CalMet's services. TO RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL CUSTOMERS WHEREAS, the City of Downey has previously entered into an Integrated Waste Management Services Agreement with CalMet Services, Incorporated (CalMet) dated April 1, 2016 for solid waste disposal and recycling services to the City; and WHEREAS, the rate adjustments requested by CalMet are in accordance with those provisions of the Agreement specifying the methodologies for calculating adjustment to rates and fixing maximum rates; and WHEREAS, pursuant to the Agreement, CalMet has requested an annual adjustment to increase the maximum rates for solid waste and recycling services; and WHEREAS, the City Council confirms that the requested annual rate adjustment is consistent with the methodology set forth in the Agreement. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1.
