CALL TO ORDER: Committee Chair Frey called the meeting to order at 4:10 P.M. II. CONSENT CALENDAR: Committee Member Rogers made a motion to approve the Minutes of the October 18, 2018 meeting. The motion was seconded by Committee Member Huerta. The Minutes were approved as written. III. OLD BUSINESS: None. IV. NEW BUSINESS: 1. Request for Stop Controls – Smallwood Avenue at Dinsdale Street Mr. Consunji introduced Mr. Mike Vallado, Department of Public Works’ Engineering Consultant with Hartzog & Crabill, Inc. Mr. Vallado reported that staff received several requests through the Traffic Calming Request and Residential Service Request lists from residents for the installation of stop signs at the intersection of Smallwood Avenue and Dinsdale Street. Mr. Vallado highlighted on the State of California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (CA MUTCD) guidelines, field observation results and daily vehicle counts. A two-way stop sign is recommended to be installed at the intersection of Smallwood Avenue at Dinsdale Street. Discussion followed. MINUTES OF THE PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE November 15, 2018 Page 2 Committee Member Pacheco made a motion to receive and file this report as well as approve the installation of a two-way stop sign at the intersection of Smallwood Avenue at Dinsdale Street as recommended. The motion was seconded by Committee Member Gendreau. The vote was unanimously in favor thereof. V. PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE COMMUNICATIONS 1. Positive comments were received from the committee regarding recently completed Lakewood Blvd. Project (between Gallatin Ave. and Telegraph Rd.) 2. Landscape upgrade of the median Island between Gallatin Ave. and Telegraph Rd. 3. Consider installing a street name sign on Rives Ave. (west of Imperial Hwy). 4. Reminder to attend the Town Hall Meeting with Sean Ashton tonight at 6:00 PM at the Columbia Space Center. VI. PUBLIC COMMUNICATIONS None. VII. PUBLIC WORKS STAFF COMMUNICATIONS Updates were given on the following: 1. Lakewood Blvd. between Gallatin Ave. and Telegraph Rd. Project – Completed 2. Residential Street Resurfacing Project – Completed 3. Annual Concrete Miscellaneous Repairs/ADA Improvements Project – On-going 4. Water System Improvements Project: Well No. 23, Stewart and Gray Rd. (between Downey Ave. and Paramount Blvd.) Well Nos. 27 and 28 - new wells will be installed on Stewart & Gray Rd. and Springer St., respectively. 5. Paramount Blvd. (5th St. and Florence Ave.) – construction to begin in January 2019 6. Major Arterial Street Rehabilitation Project – Firestone Blvd. (from Old River School Rd. to the west city limit), Paramount Blvd. (from Imperial Hwy to Firestone Blvd.) and Paramount Blvd.(Firestone Blvd. to Florence Ave.) – Designs are complete. VIII. NEXT MEETING: December 20, 2018 The Public Works Committee meeting was adjourned at 4:40 P.M.
