That the City Council: 70041T.=6 , As a result of the Downey Police Department's effort to prevent tobacco sales to minors and mitigate the growing problems associated with tobacco sales and use, a grant request was �RI,VkV4, efforts. Cal -DOJ approved the grant funding not to exceed a total of $75,500 to be distributed over budget years 2018-2019, 2019-2020, and 2020-2021. For further on the funding distribution, refer to the attached "Budget Detail" report. There are three components to the grant: 1) Public education; focusing on local tobacco licensed businesses and their employees, 2) Conducting enforcement operations, and 3) Utilizing data collected from the enforcement operations to measure the effectiveness of the grant. During the course of this three-year grant, our department will work to reduce the 'illegal sale of tobacco products to minors. Additionally, the goal of this grant is to combat problems associated with tobacco sales and use affecting our community. The grant provides funding for law enforcement training, the training of local businesses and their employees regarding tobacco related laws, and law enforcement operations.
