Authorize Street Closure for 1st Annual Emergency Preparedness FairItem No. APPROVED BY CITY MANAGER TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER BY: MARK GILLASPIE, FIRE CHIEF DATE: AUGUST 28, 2018 SUBJECT: STREET CLOSURE REQUEST = CITY OF DOWNEY'S 1st ANNUAL EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS FAIR RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council authorize a street closure at the intersection of Civic Center Drive and 3rd Street for the City of Downey's 1St Annual Emergency Preparedness Fair on Saturday, September 8, 2018. r•K For the City of Downey Downey's 1St Annual Emergency Preparedness Fair, staff recommends closing vehicular access to a small portion of Civic Center Drive, as well as the roundabout on 3rd Street, including the intersection at 3`d Street and Civic Center Drive. Maps are attached for your review. The proposed closure will be on Saturday, September 8, 2018 from 6-00 a.m, - 400 p.m. to allow staff time for setr• breakdown an• clean up. COUNCILCITY • Quality of Life, Infrastructure & Parks Public Engagement FISCAL IMPACT There is no fiscal impact associated with this action. ATTACHMENTS Attachment A - Area Maps I] EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS FAIR— STREET CLOSURE 1 SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2018 CIVIC CENTER DRIVE AND 3RD STREET The proposed closure is for Saturday, September 8, 2018 from 6:00 a.m. until approximately 4:00 p.m. to allow staff time for set up, breakdown, clean up and the event itself. Public works will assist with setting up and taking down at the conclusion of the event. The A -frame barricades described throughout the street -closure proposal will have reflective material affixed to them so they are readily visible to approaching motorists after dark. Attachment "A EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS FAIR - STREET CLOSURE 1 2 SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2018 (1) A -FRAME BARRICADES WILL BE PLACED ALONG THE EAST CURB PROLONGATION OF CIVIC CENTER DRIVE AT THIRD STREET. IN ADDITION, IT WILL BE REQUESTED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT PLACE A FIRE ENGINE ALONG THE PROLONGATION. (2) A -FRAME BARRICADES WILL BE PLACED ON THE NORTH CURB PROLONGATION OF 3RD STREET AT THE ENTRANCE TO THE PARKING LOT WEST OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT BUILDING EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS FAIR - STREET CLOSURE 1 3 SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2018 (3) A -FRAME BARRICADES WILL BE PLACED ALONG THE SOUTH CURB PROLONGATION OF 3RD STREET AT THE CITY LIBRARY PARKING LOT ON THE TURNABOUT AT CIVIC CENTER DRIVE. A POLICE UNIT WILL ALSO BE PLACED AT THE PROLONGATION.
