MARY STAUFFER'S 101ST BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council waive admission fees to the Columbia Memorial Space Center on
September 1, 2018, in order to commemorate Mary Stauffer's 101St birthday.
The Columbia Memorial Space Center (GMSC) is honored to celebrate Dr. Mary Stauffer's 101 st
birthday by inviting the entire Downey community to commemorate this special event by visiting
the Space Center, a place that she has championed and supported since it opened. Dr. Mary
Stauffer is recognized as one of the City's most generous and influential community members,
widely known throughout Downey for her generosity and continuous support of the City. She
contributes to the local school district, its students, and the Downey community in a number of
ways, including through her work at the Mary R. Stauffer Foundation, which over 25 years, has
given over $5 million to Downey and its citizens. Dr. Stauffer is a remarkable individual who has
impacted many lives within the community.
In order to make the Space Center accessible to the community for this special event, Staff is
recommending that the City Council approve the waiving of admission fees to the CMSC during
its hours of operation on Saturday, September 1, 2018.

donation to the Columbia Memorial Space Center Foundation.
