CALL TO ORDER: Committee Chair Frey called the meeting to order at 4:00 P.M. II. CONSENT CALENDAR: Committee Member Pacheco made a motion to approve the Minutes of the September 21, 2017 meeting. The motion was seconded by Committee Member Halbmaier. The Minutes were approved as written. III. OLD BUSINESS: None. IV. NEW BUSINESS: 1. Update on Community Development Projects Mr. Mostahkami introduced Mr. Aldo Schindler, Director of Community Development who in turn gave an update on community development projects: Firestone Blvd. auto dealerships (Champion Dodge, Toyota, Downey Nissan), Raising Cane, 24-unit townhomes for sale, Rock n’ Brews in Stonewood Mall, Marriott Hotel, La Barca, McDonald’s, Starbuck’s, Habitat for Humanity housing on Elm Vista, Kaiser Permanente expansion, NSVS medical offices-Imperial Hwy, Avenue Theater-Downey Ave., Distrito on Paramount Blvd. Discussion followed. MINUTES OF THE PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE October 19, 2017 Page 2 Mr.Schindler mentioned that a community meeting for the Rancho Los Amigos Campus Development Plan will be held on November 16, 2017 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at the Barbara J. Riley Community Center. 2. Update on the I-710 Freeway Corridor Expansion Project Mr. Norris gave an update on the I-710 Freeway Corridor Expansion Project. Mr. Norris highlighted on the purpose, need, alternatives, proposed improvements and project impacts. Discussion followed. V. PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE COMMUNICATIONS The committee inquired regarding the Downtown Parking Study. Mr. Mostahkami responded that the parking study is part of Measure S and will take about 6 months to complete this project. Mr. Schindler added that Community Development and Public Works are coordinating all of the parking signage and curb zones. Lakewood Blvd. and Gotham St. gets congested and backed up as early as 7:00 AM. Request for a “Keep Clear” marking. Mr. Mostahkami suggested installing a “Do not Block Intersection” signage for now. VI. STAFF COMMUNICATIONS Updates were given on the following: 1. Lakewood Blvd. Phase 3C Improvement Project (between Gallatin Rd. and Telegraph Rd.) 2. Furman Park and Apollo Park Walking Trails Project Phase II 3. Residential Street Pavement Rehab Project 4. Old River School Road Water Improvement and Repaving Project (Imperial Hwy to Arnett St.) 5. Firestone Blvd. Water Improvement and Repaving Projects (Old River School Rd. to west city limit) 6. Lakewood Blvd. Lighting Improvements VII. NEXT MEETING: November 16, 2017 The Public Works Committee meeting was adjourned at 6:00 P.M.
