SUBJECT: STREET CLOSURE REQUEST= HEALTHY DOWNEY 6th ANNUAL 5K FOR TLC
EVENT
That the City Council authorize closures at Quill Drive between Old River School Road
and Morning Avenue, Richeon Avenue from Quill Drive to Hondo Street, and Rives
Avenue between Hondo Street and Leeds Street for the 6th Annual Healthy Downey 5k
for TLC event on Saturday, February 24, 2018.
DISCUSSION:
For the 6th Annual Healthy Downey 5k for TLC event, staff recommends closing Quill Drive
between Old River School Road and Morning Avenue, and Rives Avenue between and
Leeds St to vehicular traffic. A map is attached for reference.
The proposed closure will be on Saturday, February 24, 2018 starting from 6:30am until
10:30am or earlier if the course is clear of walkers/runners. The event is from 6:30am-
10:30am with the 5K starting at 7:30am and will feature vendor booths, community stage,
cheer squads, performers and music provided by a DJ. The 5k route includes use of the
trail at Apollo Park and the roadways on Rives Avenue and Quill Drive. Staff has received
approval by Rancho Los Amigos Hospital to use the Child Care parking lot located at the
South side of the campus at Golondrinas Street. Transportation via Dial -A -Ride shuttles will
be available for patrons from the parking lot.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Labor costs for the delivery, set-up, and take-down of street barricades and road closure
signage is approximately $300 and included in the Fiscal Year 2017-18 budget in account 10-4-
4321.
