HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 17-7702-License Plate Reader Sharing Agmts w-various AgenciesRESOLUTION OF • OF OF DOWNEY AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF •, POLICE, OR HIS/HER DESIGNEE, TO ELECTRONICALLY ENTER INTO AUTOMATED LICENSE PLATE READERDATA SHARING AGREEMENTS WITH VARIOUS LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES AND/OR COUNTY, STATE, OR FEDERAL PROSECUTORS OFFICES THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES WHEREAS, many law enforcement agencies are utilizing automated license plate readers (ALPR) as a law enforcement tool, and many agencies are sharing ALPR data with other law eforcement agencies to expand and broaden the usefulness of the ALPR as an investigatory tool. ° WHEREAS, the City of Downey Police Department is recommending that the City Council allow the Chief of Police, or his/her designeee, to enter into ALPR data sharing agreements with the understanding that the data shared or obtained will be for official law enforcement purposes only. RESOLVENOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES AEREBY • • SECTION 1. That the City Council hereby authorizes the Chief of Police or his/her designee to approve all ALPR data sharing agreements for official law enforcement purposes. SECTION 2. This Resolution is effective immediately upon adoption. SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this Resolution and enter it into the book of original Resolutions.
