MINUTES OF THE
LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD
OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
February 16, 2016
The Library Advisory Board held a regular meeting at 6:30 p.m., February 16, 2016 in the Downey City Library,
Cormack Room, 11121 Brookshire Avenue, Downey, California.
Present:, Betty Monroy –Chair, Theresa Ford – Vice Chair, Kimberly Hayes, Beverly Mathis
Absent: Board Member -Karol Morrison
Staff and Guests Present: Shannon DeLong – Library Director, Dan Martin-Senior Librarian, Amber Wysopal
– Admin Clerk, Leonor Marroquin for Eunice Hammond, FODCL
Welcome to Members and Guests:
Chair Monroy welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Roll was called and a quorum
was verified.
Written Communications:
1. The minutes of November 17, 2015 were considered. Chair Ford motioned for approval and by
unanimous consensus; the minutes were approved as corrected.
Non-Agenda Public Comment/Oral Communications:
There were none.
Reports:
1. Library Incident Reports: The reports were read individually by all Board Members. Ms. DeLong provided
additional follow up information regarding some of the incidents. The incident report was received and filed.
2. Library Director’s Report: Ms. DeLong reported on the upcoming City Projects, including the permanent
coffee stand. New 3M Gates will be utilized at the North doors for limited material checkout once the patio area
is finished. The HVAC Contractors should be gone by the summer. The CENIC connection for the computer
lab is in progress; there will be a connection ceremony in April for the City. The board will be proactive in
reviewing the Annual Plan of Service. The Summer Reading Program will have a simplified structure for
performers with events booked starting in June. Patrons are satisfied with the food pilot program, and the
vendor has amended their hours based on their customer flow. Library staff is using disinfectant wipes around
the Library based on the sicknesses going around. The City Annual Report was distributed for the Boards
review. It was noted that Library staff will be at a booth with giveaways for the City’s Ride & Stride, KidsLAvia
event on Sunday, May 1.
2. Friends of the Downey City Library (FODCL) Report: Ms. Leonor Marroquin reported on an upcoming
restaurant fundraiser to be held at BJ’s. The bingo fundraiser will be cancelled due
