HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 16-7613-Gateway COG & ECO-Rapid Transit Board Current & Future Measure Rt' 11,111 Lei • A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY SUPPORTING THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS • -RAPID TRANSIT BOARD REGARDING • METROPOLITAN i • • N AUTHORI WHEREAS, The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA, or Metro) is responsible for allocating Measure R transportation sales tax funds; and, WHEREAS, The MTA is considering a future transportation tax measure; and, WHEREAS, the City of Downey faces a backlog of nearly $16 million annually for local street repairs; and, WHEREAS, the Downey City Council has previously adopted Resolution No. 15 -7583, supporting the allocation of additional funding to alleviate the statewide transportation infrastructure funding crisis; and, WHEREAS, the City of Downey is a member of both the Gateway Cities Council of Governments and the Orangeline Development Authority (dba Eco - Rapid); and, WHEREAS, the Gateway Cities Council of Governments has recommended that the MTA allocate a 25% local return of any future non - capital transportation revenues to alleviate local street repair backlogs; and, WHEREAS, the Eco -Rapid Board has requested the MTA allocate approximately $15 million from Measure R for predevelopment planning at West Santa Ana Transit Corridor Stations, including the proposed Downey Station. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Support and request that the MTA Board support the funding recommendations and requests from the Gateway Cities Council of Governments and the Eco Rapid Board. SECTION 2.
