MINUTES
CITY OF DOWNEY - PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE
January 21, 2016
I. CALL TO ORDER:
Committee Chair Frey called the meeting to order at 4:10 P.M.
II. CONSENT CALENDAR:
Committee Member Owens made a motion to approve the Minutes of the September 17, 2015 meeting. The motion was seconded by Committee Member Gendreau. The Minutes
were approved as written.
III. OLD BUSINESS:
None.
IV. NEW BUSINESS:
1. Presentation on El Nino Preparedness
Mr. Andrew Stevens, Emergency Manager, Downey Fire Department gave a presentation
on El Nino Preparedness.
V. PUBLIC COMMUNICATIONS
None.

VI. PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE COMMUNICATIONS
The following were discussed:
1) Solid lines located just south of Firestone Blvd. and Old River School Road.
2) Traffic signal timing at south on Lakewood Blvd. and Apollo Way
3) Traffic on Congressman Steve Horn Way can’t go straight to Downey Landing which could create more traffic on Columbia Way and Bellflower Blvd.
4) Bellflower Blvd. entrance to the Promenade east on Apollo Way, no Stop sign.
5) Richeon Ave. construction signs have not been picked up.
VII. STAFF COMMUNICATIONS
Mr. Norris gave an updated on the following projects:
1) Lakewood Blvd. and Telegraph Road Intersection
2) Firestone Blvd. and Paramount Blvd. Intersection
3) Gardendale Street Pavement Rehabilitation Project
(joint project with South Gate and Paramount)
4) Firestone Blvd. (Lakewood Blvd.-East City Limit) 5) Bioswale installation (Prop 84 grant) at Stonewood Mall
6) Landscape Improvements (Medians)
7) Bid to advertise safety Improvements at nine intersections throughout the city
8) Bid to advertise the Bellflower Blvd. at Imperial Hwy. Intersection
9) Theater/Library HVAC 10) Downtown street lighting system replacement to LED
Mr. Mueller gave an update on the water improvements (hydrants, service lines/meters,
mains) being constructed as part of the Lakewood Blvd./Telegraph Rd., Paramount
Blvd./Firestone Blvd. and Gardendale Street projects. An update was also provided for the sewer lift station project which is currently out to bid.
