HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 14-7518 - Surety Approving the City's New Street Name Sign Standard Reflecting Standard FontsRESOLUTION NO. 14-7518 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY APPROVING THE CITY’S NEW STREET NAME SIGN STANDARD RELECTING STANDARD HIGHWAY LETTER FONT WHEREAS, all government agencies nationwide are mandated to retrofit their respective traffic signs, including street name signs, by 2018 to have retroreflective capability; and WHEREAS, the city’s existing street name signs lack consistency in terms of appearance and don’t give the city a unique identity; and, WHEREAS, the city is working towards the development and approval of a new street name sign standard which will: 1) meet the new required retroreflectivity standard, 2) establish a uniform street name sign throughout the city and 3) give the city a unique identity; and, WHEREAS, upon the adoption of the new street name sign standard, the city will gradually retrofit the existing street name signs with the new signs as resources permit; and, WHEREAS, the City Council is required to adopt the new street name sign standard for design immunity purposes. NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Downey hereby approves the new street name sign standard based on the standard highway letter font herein attached as Attachment “A”for overhead signs and pole mounted signs. SECTION 2. Director of Public Works is authorized to modify street name sign size, font size, etc., from time to time to remain up-to-date with current highway sign standards SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution and forward one certified copy to the Director of Public Works.
