The City Council of the City of Downey held a Reorganization Meeting at
7:00 p.m., July 5, 1988, in the Council chamber of the Downey City Hall, Mayor
Diane P. Boggs presiding.
PRESENT: Council Members:
Diane P. Boggs Mayor
Robert G. Cormack Mayor Pro Ten
Randall R. Barb
Roy L. Paul
James S. Santangelo
ALSO PRESENT: T: Jenny Young, City Clerk -Treasurer
Judy McDonnell, Deputy City Clerk
Other staff members and their spouses
were present in the audience
The Invocation was delivered by Reverend John Slnyser, Downey First Baptist
Church. The Flag Salute was led by Miranda Gonsalves, daughter of Council
Member Cormack's company secretary.
Mayor Boggs welcomed former Council members, their spouses, and other
special guests present in the audience. She also asked her family and fiance,
Mr. Bob Verderber, to come forward -and be introduced. Several of her
grandchildren presented Mayor Boggs with a bouquet of roses.
The following people approached the podium and extended their congratu-
lations to Mayor Boggs on her past year as Mayor:
Assemblyman Wayne Grisham;
John Standiford, representing Senator Cecil Green;
_ Pat Gomez, immediate Past President of the Downey Chamber of Co:mnerce.
Boyd Kifer, representing Congressman Glenn Anderson;
Connie Sziebl, representing Mayor Boggs' Cwmussion and Board Members.
Mayor Boggs extended her appreciation for the presentations made to her
this evening, as well as to her family members and other supporters who worked
toward her re-election. She also thanked staff and the other Council Members
for their assistance during the past year.
City Manager Davis congratulated Mayor Boggs and, on behalf of staff, pre-
sented her with a scrapbook of her past year as Mayor.

The Resolution was read by title only. It was moved by Council Member
Commack, seconded by Council Member Barb, and unanimously carried to waive
further reading and to adopt.
Mayor Boggs presented a plaque to outgoing Council Member James Santangelo
for his service on the City Council during the past four years.
Council Member Santangelo introduced his wife, Rosell, and other family
members present in the audience. He then expressed special thanks to the people
who served the community as his appointees to boards, commissions, and comittees
as well as others who worked on his camugpaign. He said it has been a pleasure to
work with City staff and that although he is leaving the Council, he plans to
continue contributing towards the community.

City Clerk Young asked newly -elected Council Manbets, Robert G. Cormack,
Barbara J. Hayden, and Diane P. Boggs, to cam forward. She administered the
Oath of Office and presented each with a Certificate of Election. Council
Members Cormack, Hayden, and Boggs were seated with the Council at this time.
City Clerk Young declared the Office of Mayor open.
There beiM no further nominations, it was moved by Council. Member Paul and
seconded by Council Member Barb to cast a unanimous vote for Robert G. Cormack
as Mayor.
Mayor Cormack declared the office of Mayor Pro Tempc a open.

There being no further nominations, it was roved by Council Member Paul and
seconded by Council Member Boggs to cast a unanimous vote for Council Member
Barb as Mayor Pro Tempore.
Mayor Cm3mck thanked the Council for trusting him with the Mayorship and
said he will do his best for the City. He introduced his wife, Louise, other
members of his family, co-workers and staff of his oaf, and other friends
and appointees of boards, commissions and committees.
Mayor Cormack presented the First Lady Pin to his wife, Louise.
Council Member Hayden introduced her husband, Robert, and other family
members and friends.
Council Member Baru complimented Mayor Boggs on" her past year as Mayor,
noting it has been a difficult year. He introduced his wife, Jodi, and said
he looks forward to the leadership Mayor Cormack will bring to the City.
Council Member Paul mentioned his father was unable to attend the meeting
this evening. He said it has been a pleasure to work with former Council
Member Sanangelo. He congratulated Council Member Boggs on her year as Mayor
and welcomed Council Member Hayden.
Mr. Jack Robinson, 8555 Gainford, said there has been too much negative
attitude in the cmmmmity, and he urged the Council to ask the District Attorney
to dismiss clarges against forgoer Council Member Santangelo.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:02 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., July 12, 1988, in
Council Member of Downey City Hall.
