I'.t was moved by Councilman Miller, seconded by Councilman Swearingen, and

and Company, to offer a settlement on Damage Claim #315, not to exceed $1500.
Mr. Shand outlined the insurance procedure for claim settlement over $1000 and
less than $50,000. It was stated the proposed settlement would involve Workers'
Compensation Insurance for the injured driver, the homeowners' insurance company,
as well as the City of Downey. It was pointed out that this particular request is
directed toward an out -of -court settlement which would hopefully eliminate the
necessity of having the case heard in court, which would involve greater expendi-
tures for attorney's fees. It was further pointed out the request is being made at
this time because the designated date for settlement conference is June 12th, one
day prior to the next regular Council Meeting.
