HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes-10-08-72-Special MeetingMINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY SPECIAL -CALLED MEETING AUGUST 8, 1972 The City Council of the City of Downey held a Special -Called meeting at 4:30 p.m., August 8, 1972, in the Council Chambers of the Downey City Hall, Mayor Pro Tem Thomas H. Morton presiding. PRESENT: Councilmen: Jennings, Morton, Temple ABSENT: Councilmen: DiLoreto (arrived at 4:35 p.m.); Winton ALSO PRESENT: Donald B. Robison, Assistant City Manager Loren D. Morgan, Police Chief Robert L. Shand, City Clerk Mayor Pro Tem Morton explained the reason for the special Council meet- ting is to set a time and date for hearing and appeal as requested in the matter of Mr. Manual Rivas of the E1 Palomar Inn 12165 Paramount Boulevard, Downey, California 90242. Because of the length of time until the September night meeting and because of vacation schedules, it was stated August 14, 1972 would be the ideal time for the hearing as a part of the regular night meeting. Police Chief Morgan explained that police permits issued to the E1 Palomar Inn for public dancing, entertainment and billiard room have been revoked for reason of violations of the Business and Professions Code in serving minors and adult patrons after legal hours; the arrest of 31 aliens in the establishment; for employment of a barmaid who was a minor; and be- cause of the charge of having personally sold approximately 17 ounces of heroin to an undercover peace officer. Mayor Pro Tem Morton called for setting of a hearing per request of the attorney for Mr. Manual Rives of the E1 Palomar Inn. It was moved by Councilman Jennings, seconded by Councilman Temple, and passed by the following vote to set a hearing on appeal requested in the matter of Mr. Manual Rives and the El Palomar Inn for 7:30 p.m., August 14, 1972, in the Council Chambers of the Downey City Hall. AYES: 4 Councilmen: Jennings, DiLoreto, Temple, Morton NOES: 0 Councilmen: None ABSENT: 1 Councilmen: Winton It was moved by Mayor Pro Tem Morton, seconded by Councilman Jennings, and so ordered to adjourn the meeting at 4:40 p.m. KOBERT L.
