OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
DECEMBER 14TH, 1959
The City Council of the City of Downey held a special meeting in
the Council Chambers of the Downey City Hall at 8:00 A.M. on Monday,
December 14th, 1959, Mayor James L. Stamps presiding.
PRESENT: Councilmen: Peavey, Dunnum, Temple, Stamps
ABSENT: Councilman: Giddings
ALSO PRESENT: Oren L. King, City Manager
Glenn Kendall, Assistant City Manager
Della Doyle, City Clerk
Alberta Pfeiffer, Deputy City Clerk
Councilman Dunnum reported the Judicial Council has presented two
proposals to the County Board of Supervisors, as follows:
1. Nine court system.
2. One court system.
The Judicial Council favors the second proposition consolidating all
municipal courts in the County of Los Angeles into one court, which appears
to be a step away from local control and another step toward metropolitan
government.
Councilman Dunnum suggested that the City Council adopt a resolution
to the effect that the Board of Supervisors delay action to give the
opportunity to fully study and determine how this proposal affects the
City of Downey.
RESOLUTION NO. 532
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
OPPOSING THE PLAN TO CONSOLIDATE ALL MUNICIPAL COURTS
WITHIN THE COUNTY INTO ONE LOS ANGELES COUNTY MUNICIPAL
COURT AT THIS TIME
The resolution was read in full by the City Clerk. It was moved by
Councilman Dunnum, seconded by Councilman Temple and passed by the following
vote that Resolution No. 532 be adopted.
AYES: 4 Councilmen: Peavey, Dunnum, Temple, Stamps
NOES: 0 Councilmen: None
ABSENT: 1 Councilman: Giddings
Councilman Dunnum announced that a City Officials Recognition Meeting
will be held at the Downey Elks Lodge on January 7, 1960, at 6:00 P.M., and
that he has been asked to invite all department heads.
There being no further business to come before the Council, the meeting
adjourned at 8:20 A.M.
