MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
SEPTEMBER 3RD, 1959
The City Council of the City of Downey held a special meeting
in the Council Chambers of the Downey City Hall at 9:00 P.M. on
Thursday, September 3rd, 1959, Mayor James L. Stamps presiding.
PRESENT: Councilmen: Peavey, Dunnum, Stamps
ABSENT: Councilmen: Giddings, Temple

Ivan A. Robinson, Chief of Police
Della Doyle, City Clerk

The City Clerk reported that she had on file properly signed waivers
of notice of a special meeting from Councilmen Peavey, Dunnum, Giddings
and Stamps, and that she had received a telegram from Councilman Scott
Temple from Lake Arrowhead waiving notice of special meeting.
The City Clerk read a letter from Mr. Gordon T. Nesvig, Secretary of
the County Boundary Commission, as follows:
"At the meeting held on September 2, 1959, the County
Boundary Commission reviewed the boundary description and
map submitted by you, with your letter of August 20, 1959,
of the proposed annexation of territory to the City of
Downey.
"The boundaries submitted do not create islands or corridors
of unincorporated territory and conform with record lines and
lines of ownership.
"This annexation overlaps the proposed "15th Addition Terri-
tory" annexation to the City of South Gate, as filed with the
Commission on August 31, 1959.
"Upon recommendation of the County Engineer revisions were
made in the boundary description to provide the definiteness
and certainty intended under the provisions of Section 35002
of the Government Code.
"With these revisions, the County Boundary Commission approved
the boundaries of the above proposed annexation. A copy of
the approved revised legal description and a list of special
districts involved are enclosed for your use."
Councilman Dunnum inquired in what manner the boundaries submitted by
the City of Downey were changed. The City Manager explained that there
was actually no change in boundaries but the change was merely a change in
legal descriptions.
It was moved by Councilman Peavey, seconded by Councilman Dunnum and
passed by the following vote that the report of the County Boundary Com-
