OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
AUGUST 7TH, 1959
The City Council of the City of Downey held an adjourned meeting
in the Council Chambers of the Downey City Hall at 8:00 A.M. on Tuesday,
August 7th, 1959, Mayor James L. Stamps presiding.
PRESENT: Councilmen: Dunnum, Temple, Stamps
ABSENT: Councilmen: Peavey, Giddings
ALSO PRESENT: Oren L. King, City Manager
Glenn Kendall, Assistant City Manager
Don Robison, Administrative Assistant
Della Doyle, City Clerk
Alberta Pfeiffer, Deputy City Clerk
The City Manager called on Mr. John Cayer, representative for
Mr. James Carson with whom the City has been negotiating to set up a
municipal bus system. Mr. Cayer reported that the findings of the trans-
portation company are that the tentative bus routes set up at the adjourned
meeting held on August 4, 1959, appear to be satisfactory as far as the
time element and mileage are concerned. Mr. Cayer further stated that the
routes cannot be established definitely as the most satisfactory ones until
the actual bus runs begin. The Council agreed that the bus routes for
their districts appear at this time to be as satisfactory as possible under
the existing circumstances.
The City Manager requested Mr. Cayer to prepare Exhibit A showing the
established bus routes and to present it at the regular Council Meeting to
be held on Tuesday, August 11, 1959, for final approval and authorization for
the Mayor to sign the contractual agreement in order to have this municipal
bus system begin operation by September 8, 1959.
There being no further business to come before the Council, the meet-
ing adjourned at 9:00 A.M.
