The City Manager announced that the main purpose of the meeting is
for the purpose of further study of the bus route in connection with the
contractual agreement between Mr. James Carson and the City of Downey.
The City Manager introduced three members of the Transportation Committee
who were present: Mr. Murray Kramer, Mrs. Kathleen Wills and Mrs. Mignon
Caughran.
The City Manager reported that the Chamber of Commerce as of yesterday
had received $5,000 in subscriptions for advertising which represents approx-
imately twenty each from downtown Downey and Stonewood Shopping Center
merchants. He asked Mr. Barrett, Manager of the Chamber of Commerce, if he
had anything further to add and Mr. Barrett reported that the only addition
he had is that advertising subscriptions had gone over the $5,000 mark and
there should be more forthcoming in the morning mail.
The Mayor called on Mr. James Carson to present proposed bus routes.
Mr. Carson submitted a map which drops the northeast section of the original
bus route proposed, leaving nothing northeast of Firestone Boulevard.
Mr. King called on Dr. Charles K. Donoghue, 10303 Wiley Burke Avenue,
who presented a petition with 21 signatures of residents on Wiley Burke
requesting a re- routing of the proposed bus service to some location other
than Wiley Burke.
Councilman Dunnum suggested that a time schedule be posted on all benches
at the bus stops. Mr. Carson mentioned that usually a decale is placed on all
of the benches showing the face of a clock to designate the time of arrival
at each bus stop.
After some discussion on the proposed bus routes, it was moved by
Councilman Temple, seconded by Councilman Giddings and so ordered that a
tentative route be approved as set forth in Exhibit A.
