MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
HELD JULY 17, 1958
The City Council of the City of Downey held an adjourned meeting with
the Downey City School District Board in the Council Chambers of the Downey
City Hall at 8:00 A.M. on July 17th, 1958. Mayor Scott E. Temple presided.
PRESENT: Councilmen: Stamps, Dunnum, Peavey, Temple
ABSENT: Councilmen: Giddings
ALSO PRESENT: Oren L. King, City Manager
Glenn Kendall, Assistant City Manager
Richard G. Barhite, Director of Public Works
Dan McNutt, City Planner
Roy Starkey, Director of Finance
Wilma C. Erickson, Deputy City Clerk
Mayor Temple requested that a motion be entertained to adopt the reso-
lution presented by the School Board regarding the purchase of the Elementary
School Site (City Hall) .
RESOLUTION NO. 273
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF CERTAIN PROPERTY FROM THE
DOWNEY CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT.
The resolution was read by title only. It was moved by Councilman Dunnum,
seconded by Councilman Peavey, and so ordered that further reading be waived.
It was moved by Councilman Dunnum, seconded by Councilman Peavey, and
passed by the following vote that the Resolution No. 273 relative to the pur-
chase of the school property on the terms and conditions and for the price set
forth in the resolution as amended presently before the Council be adopted:

0 NOES: None
1 ABSENT: Giddings
It was moved by Councilman Peavey, seconded by Councilman Dunnum, and passed
by the following vote that approval be given the plans and specifications to pave
the parking lot on the east side of the City Hall and authority be given the City
Manager to call for bids:

It was moved by Councilman Dunnum, seconded by Councilman Stamps, and
passed by the following vote that authority be given to deposit $750,000.00 on
a rotating basis:

RESOLUTION NO. WS 82
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
AUTHORIZING CERTAIN CLAIMS AND DEMANDS AND SPECIFYING
THE FUNDS OUT OF WHICH THE SAME ARE TO BE PAID.
( #2083 -- $38,000.00)
The resolution was read by title only. It was moved by Councilman Dunnum
seconded by Councilman Stamps, and so ordered that further reading be waived.
It was moved by Councilman Dunnum, seconded by Councilman Peavey, and passed
by the following vote that Resolution No. WS 82 be adopted:

RESOLUTION NO. 274
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO RENEGOTIATE SUCH WATER
CONTRACTS AS ARE NECESSARY TO PROTECT THE BEST INTERESTS
OF THE CITY.
The resolution was read in full. It was moved by Councilman Peavey,
seconded by Councilman Stamps, and passed by the following vote that Resolution
No. 274 be adopted:

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
ADOPTING ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES RELATIVE TO ZONE
CHANGES:
The resolution was read by title only. It was moved by Councilman Peavey,
seconded by Councilman Stamps, and passed that further reading be waived.

There being no further business, it was moved by Councilman Peavey,
seconded by Councilman Dunnum, and so ordered that the meeting adjourn to
Monday morning, 8:00 A.M., July 28th, 1958 in the Council Chambers of the
Downey City Hall.
