previous study of the budget as presented.
Jim Brown, Chairman of the Downey Community Youth Center Committee and
representative of the Coordinating Council, presented the recommended program
of a Youth Center to be built in the City of Downey. The suggestion was that
the City of Downey increase the tax rate to provide approximately $100,000.00
for the building, that the Service Clubs furnish the center, and that the Park
and Regreation District furnish the necessary upkeep and personnel.

matter further study before making any commitment.

additional personnel authorized for the Police Department by the Council at the

The Finance Committee felt that inasmuch as they were being asked to approve
the entire Budget, and that the salaries and wages were a very large part thereof,
it would be advisable to have a joint meeting with the Personnel Advisory Board
to review this portion of the Budget. This meeting was tentatively set for 7:30
a.m., June 23rd, 1958 at the Pow Wow Restaurant at the corner of Firestone and
Lakewood Boulevards.

to be taken on the property, owned by Mrs. Edna Mae Leach, located on 2nd Street
