OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
HELD SEPTEMBER 11TH, 1957
The City Council of the City of Downey held an adjourned meeting at
7:30 A.M. at the Powow with the Directors of the Chamber of Commerce.
PRESENT: Councilmen: Dunnum, Stamps, Temple, Giddings
17 ABSENT: Councilman: Peavey
ALSO PRESENT: Oren L. King, City Manager
Glenn Kendall, Assistant City Manager
The purpose of the meeting with the Board of Directors of the Chamber
of Commerce was to discuss the activitation and withdrawal of the Fire De-
partment from the County Consolidated Fire Department and a cooperative program
toward annexing properties and the industrial area lying north of the City
up to Washington Blvd. including areas of the Mercury Plant, Central Manu-
facturing District, Santa Fe Railroad, Southern Pacific and other industrial
developements.
The meeting adjourned to 5:00 P.M., September 11, 1957 in the Council
Chambers.

The City Council of the City of Downey held an adjourned meeting in the
Council Chambers of the Downey City Hall at 5:00 p.m. on September llth,1957,
Mayor Pro - Tempore Dunnum presiding.
PRESENT: Councilmen: Stamps, Dunnum, Giddings, Temple
ABSENT: Councilman: Peavey
ALSO PRESENT: Oren L. King, City Manager
Glenn Kendall, Assistant City Manager
Della Doyle, City Clerk
The City Manager presented tha appraisal of the County Fire Station
and equipment as offered by the Board of Supervisors, namely:

It was moved by Councilman Giddings, seconded by Councilman Temple,
and passed by the following vote that the appraisal of the Board of Supervisors
be accepted and that the County be authorized to with hold the above amount from
the Citk's apportionment of assest under withdrawal proceedings from the County
Consolidated Fire District.

NOES: 0
ABSENT: 1 Councilman: Peavey
The Council requested that a letter of appreciation be sent to Supervisor
Legg for his cooperation and help to the City of Downey in their efforts to establish
the Fire Department.
It was moved by Councilman Temple, seconded by Councilman Stamps,
and passed by the following vote that authority be given to purchase a X890 g. m.
pumper with a 1100 gallon storage tank from Lockheed .Aircraft at the price of
$3,100.00
AYES: 4 Councilmen: Giddings, Stamps, Temple, Dunnum
NOES: 0
ABSENT: I Councilman: Peavey
It was moved by Councilman Temple, seconded by Councilman Stamps
and unanimously passed that the name of Mr. Peter J. Kelly replace the name
of Mrs. Peter J. Kelly on the Public Safety Committee.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned until 9:30 a.m.
September 17th, 1957 in the Council Chambers.
