HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes-09-03-57-Regular MeetingW MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY HELD SEPTEMBER 3rd, 1957 The City Council of the City of Downey held an adjourned meeting in the Council Chambers of the Downey City Hall at 8:00 p.m. on September 3rd, 1957, Mayor Peavey presiding. PRESENT: Councilmen: Peavey, Stamps, Temple ABSENT: Councilmen: Dunnum, Giddings. ALSO PRESENT: Oren L. King, City Manager Glenn Kendall, Assistant City Manager Robert Gain, Fire Chief Ivan A. Robinson, Police Chief Della Doyle, City Clerk The meeting was opened with the announcement that the final count of the election ballots on the Annexation No. had been totaled and that the area was to be annexed to the City of Downey. The City Manager recommended that authority be given to call for bids for the remodeling of the west wing and the central wing of the City Hall. Bids to be opened 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 16th,1957 for the Council action that same evening. It was moved by Councilman Temple, seconded by Councilman Stamps, and passed by the following vote that authority be granted to call for bids as outlined by City Manager King. AYES: 3 Councilmen: Stamps, Temple, Peavey NOES: 0 ABSENT: 2 Councilmen: Dunnum, Giddings Mr. Edward W. Koehler, Executive Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce read a resolution of the Board of the Downey Chamber of Commerce endorsing the instigation and activation of the Downey Municipal Fire Department and com- mending the City Council's decision. It was moved by Councilman Stamps, seconded by Councilman Temple, and passed by the following vote that a resolution be prepared expressing apprec- iation to the Chamber of Commerce for their action. AYES: 3 Councilmen: Stamps, Temple, Peavey NOES: 0 ABSENT: 2 Councilmen: Dunnum, Giddings. It was moved by Councilman Temple, seconded by Councilman Stamps, and passed by the following vote that authority be given that either the Mayor or the City Manager can execute agreements for the loan of pumpers from the Cities of South Gate, Santa Ana, Burbank, Vernon and any other City that may be contracted with for equipment to be used in the interium period before the City's fire equipment is delivered. AYES: 3 Councilmen: Stamps, Temple, Peavey NOES: 0 ABSENT: 2 Councilmen: Dunnum, Giddings. It was moved by Councilman Stamps, seconded by Councilman Temple, and passed by the following vote that Admission Day be observed as a legal holiday and that the City Hall be closed. AYES: 3 Councilmen: Stamps, Temple, Peavey NOES: 0 ABSENT: 2 Councilmen: Dunnum, Giddings. J It was moved by Councilman Temple, seconded by Councilman Stamps, and passed by the following vote that Warrant #185 in favor of the St. Francis Hotel for reservations to the League of California Cities be approved. .YES: 3 Councilmen: Stamps, Temple, Peavey NOES: 0 ABSENT: 2 Councilmen: Dunnum, Giddings.
