MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
HELD JULY 15th,1957
The City Council of the City of Downey held an adjourned meeting in the
Council Chambers of the Downey City Hall at 4:30 P.M. on July 15th, 1957,

ABSENT: Councilman: Stamps
ALSO PRESENT: Oren L. King, City Manager
Glenn Kendall, Assistant City Manager
Royal M. Sorensen, City Attorney
LeRoy Starkey, Director of Finance
A. C . Gabriel, Purchasing Agent
Della Doyle, City Clerk
Bids for the 4/1250 gallon -per- minutes pumpers for the Fire Department
were opened at 10:00 A.M.,July 15th,1957, as specified in the call for bids.
City Manager King reviewed the bids, as submitted, and after complete
analysis by A. C. Gabriel, Purchasing Agent, Captain Dan Warren, of the Burbank
Fire Department and LeRoy Starkey, Director of Finance, it was recommended
that the bid be awarded to Crown Coach Corporation of Los Angeles on the basis
of the lowest and best bid. The price of 4/1250 gallon -per- minute pumpers to
be $105,624.48 including painting and lettering- to be delivered on or before
December 1 st,1957 .
It was moved by Councilman Temple, seconded by Councilman Dunnum,
and passed by the following vote, that $1,6Z4.48 be transferred from the land
to the fire Equipment fund, as presented in the Municipal Budget.

ABSENT: 1 Councilman: Stamps
It was moved by Councilman Temple, seconded by Councilman Dunnum,
and passed by the following vote that Crown Coach Corporation of Los Angeles
be awarded the bid for 4/1250 gallon -per- minute pumpers for the Fire Depart-
ment on the basis of the lowest and best bid.

NOES: 0
ABSENT: 1 Councilman: Stamps.
RESOLUTION NO. 123
As RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF DOWNEY, FINDING AND DETERMINING THAT THE PUBLIC
INTEREST, CONVENIENCE AND NECESSITY REQUIRE THE
ACQUISITION OF THE NECESSARY FEE TITLE AND EASEMENT
BY WAY OF EMINENT DOMAIN PROCEEDINGS FOR THE
CONSTRUCTION OF CERTAIN FIRE STATION. (Paramount Blvd.
Downey County Water District Property)
It was moved by Councilman Diddings, seconded by Councilman Temple,
and passed by the following vote that further reading be waived.
AYES: 4 Councilmen: Dunnum, Giddings, Temple, Peavey
NOES: 0
ABSENT: 1 Councilman: Stamps.
It was moved by Councilman Temple, seconded by Councilman Temple,
and passed by the following vote that Resolution No. 123 be adopted.
AYES: 4 Councilmen: Dunnum, Giddings, Temple, Peavey
NOES: 0
ABSENT: 1 Councilman: Stamps
A letter was presented, by City Manager King, from the Downey Land
Company accepting the offer, made by the City, for the purchases of a parcel
of land (as described by Exhibit A and Exhibit B) at the a t� in the immediate
vicinity of Bellflower Boulevard and Imperial Highway, Downey, California)
for the price of $15,000.00 to be used as a sit..e for a Sub- Station for the
Fire Department.
It was moved by Councilman Dunnum, seconded by Councilman Giddings,
and passed by the following vote that the City acquire, and bear the expense of
exc r ow and title, the land from theDowney Land Company.

NOES: 0
ABSENT: 1 Councilman: Stamps
It was moved by Councilman Temple, seconded by Councilman Giddings,
and passed by the following vote that the bid bonds, on unsuccessful bidders
for the Fire Equipment, be released.
AYES: 4 Councilmen: Dunnum, Giddings, Temple, Peavey
NOES: 0
ABSENT: 1 Councilman: Stamps.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned until 7:39 P.M.
on Wednesday, July 17th, 1957, in the Council Chambers,to a joint meeting
with the Board of Directors of the Downey School District.
