RESOLUTION NO. 109 A RESOL'VTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY, ACCEPTING A GRANT OF ROAD EASEMENT FROM NORTH AMERICAN AVIATION, INC. A DELAWARE CORPORATION. (Clark) It was moved by Councilman Temple, seconded by Councilman Dunnum, and passed by the following vote that Resolution No. 109 be adopted. A letter was read from Deputy ChiEf: of Police Richard Simon, returning the unsigned demand of the City, sent in appreciation of his help with the form- ation of the Police Department of the City of Downey, and expressing his con- fidence in the new department and offering any assistance that he might. be able to give to the City Council and to Chief Robinson. The Council requested that a Resolution bearing the new city seal be drawn to express their appreciation to Chief Simon. A formal announcement was received from the County Boundary Commission, that the City of Montebello had filed for an annexation to be known as Pio Annexation. Two telegrams were presented asking that the City Council register protest to the Assembly Bill #3996. Telegrams have been sent to Governor Knight. A telegram from Mayor Poulson of Los Angeles, was read asking that a resolution be passed to assist in securing the moving of the Brooklyn Dodgers to Los Angeles. It was moved by Councilman Dunnum, seconded by Councilman Temple, and passed by the following vote that such a resolution be prepared. There being no protests it was moved by Councilman Temple, seconded by Councilman Dunnum, and passed by the following vote that the hearing be continued + until 9:00 A.M. on July 6th, 1957 to allow for the legal 10 day waiting period. Barhite, Director of Public Works, announced that the assessed . valuaim of the area known as the Santa Ana - Telegraph Annexation (Downey Annexation No. 1) had been established as $1,184,250.00. It was moved by Councilman Dunnum, seconded by Councilman Temple, and passel by the following vote that $1,184,250.00 be accepted as a true and correct assessed valuation of the area to be known as the Santa Ana - Telegraph Annexation. AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY GRANTING TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA GAS COMPANY, A CORP- ORATION, THE RIGHT, PRIVILEGE AND FRANCHISE TO LAY ANDUSE PIPES AND APPURTENANCES FOR THE TRANSMITTING AND DISTRIBUTING GAS FOR ANY AND ALL PURPOSES UNDER, ALONG, ACROSS OR UPON THE PUBLIC STREETS, WAYS, ALLEYS AND PLACES, AS THE SAME NOW AR MAY HEREAFTER EXIST, WITHIN SAID MUNICIPALITY. A letter from the Gala.tin School District asking the City's cooperation in obtaining the available funds from the County for the Park and Recreation program in the City of Downey, was read. It was moved by Councilman Temple, seconded by Councilman Dunnum, and passed by the following vote that this matter be handled as was the Alameda School District's request. A letter from the Paramount Park Tract Home Owners Association asking that a Police and Fire Commission Board be established, was read. Mayor Pro - tempore Peavey requested that this letter be referred to the Council as a whole. Petitions were presented by Mrs. James H. Howard,Jr. , 11036 Benfield, Nowwalk, chairman for the Annexation #2 of the Area known as the Triangle. It was moved by Councilman Temple, seconded by Councilman Dunnum, and passed by the following vote that the petitions be referred to the City Clerk for verification with the County Registrar of Voters. AYES: 3 Councilmen: Dunnum, Temple, Peavey NOES: 0 ABSENT: 2 Councilmen: Giddings, Stamps. The City Manager presented demands No. 294 thru No. 309 for the Council's consideration. It was moved by Councilman Dunnum, seconded by Councilman Temple, and unanimously carried that the City Council, after audit of demands No. 294 thru No. 309 finds and determines that the demands are proper and the total amount thereof does not exceed the income and revenue for the year in which the indebtedness was incurred, but that there are not sufficient funds available for the payment of said demands on their due date, and the same shall not be approved for want of funds. Will, Chief Administrative Officer of the County of Los Angeles advising that formal action had been taken to discontinue present law enforcement services from the County effective midnight, June 30,1957. The Council discussed the need of a Municipal Auditorium and referred the matter to the City Manager for study. City Manager King presented a request from the Finance Director request- ing authority to purchase 13 desks at a price not to exceed $4500.00 It was moved by Councilman Temple, seconded by Councilman Dunnum, and passed by the following vote that authority be given to purchase 13 desks at a price not to exceed $4500.00. The Countil was asked to authorize an additional $3,000.00 for miscellaneous office equipment. ,—, It was moved by Councilman Dunnum, seconded by Councilman Temple, and passed by the following vote that an additional $3, 000.00 be authorized for the purchase of additional office equipment. Fire Chief Robert Gain presented specificatio" for 4/1250 gallon triple combination Class A Pumping Engines. It was moved by Councilman Temple, seconded by Councilman Dunnum, and passed by the following vote that authority be given to call for bids on 4/1250 gallon triple combination glass A, pumping engines for the Fire Department. Barhite, Director of Public Works, requesting authority to employ William A. Goggin as Planning Assistant in the Planning Division of the Department of Public Works, at the pay key #18, starting salary of $458.00 per month, effective July 8, 1957. It was moved by Councilman Dunnum, seconded by Councilman Temple, and passed by the following vote that authority be granted to employ William A. Goggin, as assistant in the Planning Division of the Public Works Department, at a salary of $458.00, pay key #18, effective as of July 8, 1957.
