,HELD MAY 16, 1957
The City Council of the City of Downey held an adjourned meeting
in the Council Chambers of the Downey City Hall at 7:30 A. M. on May
16th, 1957, with Mayor Pro - Tempore Peavey presiding.
PRESENT: COUNCILMEN: Carroll M. Dunnum, Edwin W. Giddings
Hollis M. Peavey, Scott E. Temple
ABSENT: COUNCILMAN: James L. Stamps
ALSO PRESENT: Oren L. King, City Manager
Glenn Kendall, Assistant City Manager
Della Doyle, City Clerk
RESOLUTION NO. 83
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF DOWNEY ACKNOWLEDGING THE RECEIPT OF A
COPY OF NOTICE OF INTENTION TO CIRCULATE
PETITION FOR THE ANNEXATION OF TERRITORY DESIGN-
ATED 11 ANNEXATION 211, OF AN AFFIDAVIT OF PUBLICA-
TION THEREOF AND APPROVING THE CIRCULATION OF
THE PETITION.
The Resolution was redd in full. It was moved by Councilman Dunnum,
seconded by Councilman Temple and passed by the following vote that said
^'1 Resolution be adopted.
AYES: 4 Councilmen: Dunnum, Giddings, Temple, Peavey
NOES: 0
ABSENT: 1 Councilman: Stamps.
Dr. Robert M. McLennan, 10326 Downey Ave. asked that the Council
grant building variance to allow a shake roof be approved for the building
being erected on Lakewood Blvd. by the Seventh Day Adventists. The
Council requested that the City Manager investigate the situation and bring
recommendations to Council before action be taken.
The =City Manager presented demands No. 195 thru No. 199 for the
Council's consideration. It was moved by Councilman Dunnum, seconded
by Councilman Temple and unanimously carried that the City Council,
after audit of demands No. 195 thru No. 199 finds and determines that
the demands are proper and the total amount thereof does not exceed the
income and revenue for the year in which the indebtedness was incurred,
but that there ar.e not sufficient funds available for the payment of said
demands on their due date, and the same shall not be approved for want
pf funds. The City Clerk shall endorse upon the demand the fact that the
demands have been audited by the City Council and not approved for want
of funds.

ABSENT: 1 Councilman: Stamps
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 8:00 A. M.
until 7:30 P. M. Monday, May 20th, 1957 in the Council Chambers.
