MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
Held March 8, 1957
The City Council of the City of Downey held an adjourned meeting in the
Council Chambers of the Downey City Hall at 9:00 A.M. on March 8, 1957 with
Mayor Stamps presiding.
PRFZENT: COUNCILMEN: Dunnum, Peavey, Temple, Stamps.
ABSENT: COUNCILMEN: Giddings.
A letter was read from Mike Kearns submitting his resignation from the Plan-
ning Commission because of ill health.
It was moved by Councilman Temple, seconded by Councilman Dunnum, and unani-
mously carried that Commissioner Mike Kearns' resi- nation be accepted with regrets.
AYES: 4 COUNCILME14: Dunnum, Peavey, Temple, Stamps.
NOES: 0
ABSENT: 1 COUNCILMEN: Giddings.
It was moved by Councilman Dunnum, seconded by Councilman Peavey, and unani-
mously carried by a roll call vote that Mr. Lee Felts be nominated as a member of
the Planning Commission, to fill the unexpired term of Mr. Mike Kearns.
AYES: 4 COUNCILMEN: Dunnum, Peavey, Temple, Stamps.
NOES: 0
ABSENT: 1 COUNCILMAN: Giddings.
RESOLUTION NO. 49
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
A °POINTING LEE FELTS AS A MEMBER OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION
TO FILL THE UNEXPIRED TERM OF COMMISSIONER MIKE KE ARNS.
It was moved by Councilman Temple, seconded by Councilman Peavey, and unani-
mously carried by a roll call vote that Resolution No. 49 be adopted.
AYES: 4 COUNCILMEN: Dunnum, Peavey, Temple, Stamps.
NOES: 0
ABSENT: 1 COUNCILMAN: Giddings.
The City Manager read a letter from John H. Alderson submitting his resigna-
tion, as a consultant for the City of Downey in the estahlishment of a fire de-
partment, because of ill health.
The City Manager presented a written recommendation regarding the employment
of Deputy Chief Simon to the Los Angeles Police Department, as a consultant to
City, at $100.00 per month and further recommended that the future Fire Chief and
Police Chief organize their own departments aided by consultants, in specific fields,
as requested.
It was moved by Councilman Peavey, seconded 11,y Councilman Temple, and unani-
mously carried by a roll call vote that the City Manager be instructed to write a
letter to Mr. Alderson accepting his resignation with regrets; and that further
that the recommendation of the City Manager be accepted.
AYES: 4 COUNCILMEN: Dunnum, Peavey, Temple, Stamps.
NOES: 0
ABSENT: 1 COUNCILMAN: Giddings.
It was moved by Councilman Temple, seconded by Councilman Peavey, and unani-
mously carried by a .roll call vote that the City Attorney be instructed to prepare
an Ordinance prohibiting card table, pin ball machines, palmistry, physic readings
etc. within the City of Downey.

The Council continued their review of the Kroeger report and Business Licen-
ses and tentatively approved, with amendments, Sections 15:33 thru 15:44 as shown
on Exhibit "A ".
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 11:45 A.M.
