HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes-12-26-56-Adjourned Meetingi 9 MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY HELD DECEP,IBER 26,1956 The City Council of the City of Downey held an adjourned meeting in the Council Chambers of the Downey City Hall at 7:45 P.M. on December 26, 1956, Mayor Stamps presiding. PRESENT: COUNCILMEN: Dunnum, Peavey, Temple, Stamps ABSENT: COUNCILMAN: Giddings It was moved by Councilman Peavey, seconded by Councilman Temple, and unanimously carried, that the minutes of December 17, 1956 be adopted as corrected. A letter from Governor Goodwin Knight commending the City of Downey was read. The Council asked that a letter be sent to Mr. Richard Philippi, 12020 Rives Ave., Downey,California, thanking him for the sign on the front of the City Hall. Councilman Giddings took his place at the meeting at 7:55 P.M. RESOLUTION NO. 14 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY APPROVING AN AGREEMENT AND ATJTHORIZING THE EXECUTION THEREOF. (Preservation of Rights) It was moved by Councilman Peavey, seconded by Councilman Giddings, and unanimously carried, that this Resolution be adopted by the following called vote. AYES: 5 COUNCILMEN: Dunnum, Giddings, Peavey, Temple, Stamps. NOES: 0 ABSENT- 0 RESOLUTION NO. 15 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY APPROVING A PROPOSED AGREEMENT FOR GENERAL SERVICES BETWEEN SAID CITY AND THE COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES. It was moved by Councilman Giddings, seconded by Councilman Temple, and unanimously carried, that this Resolution be adopted by the following called vote. AYES: 5 COUNCILMEN: Dunnum, Giddings, Peavey, Temple, Stamps. NOES: 0 ABSENT: 0 RESOLUTION NO. 16 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY RE: CONTRACT FOR SU'?DIVISTON SERVICES AND COUNTY SURVEYOR SERVICES. It was moved by Councilman Temple, seconded by Councilman Dunnum, and unanimously carried, that this Resolution be adopted by the following called vote. RESOLUTION NO. 19 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TT�E CITY OF DOWNEY APPROVING AN AGREEMENT WITH THE COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES FOR POUND SERVICES. It was moved by Councilman Peavey, seconded by Councilman Dunnum, — and unanimously carried, that this Resolution be adopted by the following called vote. NOES: 0 ABSENT: 0 It was moved by Councilman Temple, seconded by Councilman Giddings, and unanimously carried that the Downey Livewire become the local paper in which the City of Downey legal advertising will be placed. It was moved by Councilman Temple, seconded by Councilman Giddings, and unanimously carried that a notice be published setting January 29th, 1957 as a hearing date to consider adopting by reference the "Los Angeles Building; Law, 1956 Edition" and the "Fire Prevention Code of the County of Los Angeles ". The City TzTana ger presented a preliminary estimate of revenue that could be expected by the City of Downey prior to July 1, 1957. It was moved by Councilman Temple, seconded by Councilman Peavey, and unanimously carried, that the City T"4anager employ a Stenographer at a beginning salary ?300 to $325 and a Typist Clerk at a beginning salary of $260 ro $265 a month. It was moved by Councilman Temple, seconded by Councilman Giddings, and unanimously carried that this Resolution be adopted by the following called vote.
