HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 6189 RESOLUTION NO. 6189 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY ADOPTING A CLASS SPECIFICATION AND ESTABLISHING A SALARY RANGE FOR NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR AND ESTABLISHING NEW SALARY RANGES FOR COMPUTER OPERATOR II AND DISPATCH SYSTEMS MANAGER. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The class specification for Network Administrator, attached hereto, and by this reference herein, is hereby adopted. III SECTION 2. Salary ranges are established for specified classifications as follows: Classification/Title Pay Table Schedule Salary Range Network Administrator 01 29.0 $4014.56 - $4973.36 Computer Operator II 01 19.5 $2414.90 - $2991.61 Dispatch Systems Manager 04 A-37 $3804.00 - $4817.00 SECTION 3. MC DONNELL, City Clerk VVPWI N WGDA0714\PERSU PGD.RES r1 RESOLUTION NO. 6189 City of Downey Class Specification Adopted: 7/14/98 NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR DEFINITION Implement and maintain the Citywide Computer Network System. To perform a wide variety of computer programming and analyst work with only occasional assistance or instructions. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This position is assigned difficult and highly technical assignments related to computer systems and operations. Incumbents discuss computer needs with City staff, analyze system requirements and write computer programs. This class is distinguished from the Programmer position by the systems analyst work done and the degree of independence required. Incumbents prepare and maintain system documentation for all City computer systems, ensure that systems are designed and function properly, and give direction to lower level classifications. Incumbents are expected to work with other City staff members who have computer needs, and effectively solve most work-related problems without assistance from supervisory personnel. TYPICAL DUTIES Depending on assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Implement and maintain the citywide computer network system. Add new personal computers to the network as required. Update the network software as needed. Exercise independent judgement involving interpretation of instruction and knowledge of precedent used in carrying out duties. Write complex computer programs for municipal operations. Prepare and update system documentation. Work with other City staff members in order to ascertain their needs, develop systems analysis specifications, and train staff members on the resulting systems developed. Give direction to lower level classifications and supervise data processing operations when manager is absent. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required skills,knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the skills, knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: Five years of experience directly related to data processing. Education: Equivalent to four years of college work, or Bachelor of Science degree in computer science or related field. Knowledge of: Computer systems;Networking of personal computers, municipal applications; and IBM clone computers. Ability to: Perform complex work with a minimum of supervision; ability to communicate with others; speak expressively and articulately; make decisions; work cooperatively with fellow employees; comprehend complex problems and develop valid solutions. License Required: Valid California driver's license. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Supervision is provided by Data Processing Manager. SUPERVISION EXERCISED Supervise Data Processing staff in Division Manager's absence.
