HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 6117 RESOLUTION NO. 6117 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY, CALIFORNIA, PROVIDING THAT A PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENT RELATING TO ELECTIONS BE SUBMITTED TO A VOTE OF THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF SAID CITY AT A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN SAID CITY ON FEBRUARY 10, 1998, AS CALLED BY RESOLUTION NO. 6114 WHEREAS, a Special Municipal Election on February 10, 1998, has been called by Resolution No. 6114, adopted on November 11, 1997, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified electors thereof the question of the adoption of a proposed Charter Amendment#11, regarding Section 702, Officers and Employees, Administrative Functions; and WHEREAS,the Downey City Council desires to submit to the voters at the election an additional proposed Charter amendment relating to Elections; and NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The Downey City Council, pursuant to its right and authority, does order submitted to the voters as said Special Municipal Election the following proposed Charter amendment: Charter Amendment#12: Shall a Charter amendment proposed by the Downey City Council which requires that any proposed amendment to the City Charter Yes on the same subject matter shall not be voted upon twice within any 12-month period at any special or general municipal election, be adopted? No SECTION 2. That the text of the proposed Charter amendment submitted to the voters at a Special Municipal Election to be held in said City on the 10th day of February, 1998, which day is hereby fixed as the day and date for the holding of said Special Municipal Election, is as follows: "Charter Amendment #12: Section 1503 of the Downey City Charter shall be amended to read as follows: Section 1503. AMENDMENTS. Except as otherwise provided in this Charter, any amendment of this Charter shall be made pursuant to and in accordance with the applicable provisions of the State Constitution. Any amendment of this charter on the same subject matter shall not be voted upon twice within any 12-month period at any special or general municipal election." SECTION 3.
