HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 13-7431 - Approve Submittal of Funding Apps For Firestone Blvd (Old River School Road - West City Limit) Raised Median Island Project & traffic Signal Upgrade Projs on Paramount Blvd/Third St, Fifth St & Seventh St Intersections Under theRESOLUTION NO. 13-7431 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY APPROVING THE SUBMITTAL OF FUNDING APPLICATIONS FOR THE FIRESTONE BOULEVARD (OLD RIVER SCHOOL ROAD – WEST CITY LIMIT) RAISED MEDIAN ISLAND PROJECT AND TRAFFIC SIGNAL UPGRADE PROJECTS ON PARAMOUNT BOULEVARD AT THE THIRD STREET, FIFTH STREET AND SEVENTH STREET INTERSECTIONS UNDER THE FEDERAL HIGHWAY SAFETY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM, CYCLE 6 WHEREAS, the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) was established as a result of the passage of the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) federal funding program; and, WHEREAS, the HSIP is intended to fund projects which improve roadway safety; and, WHEREAS, Caltrans is soliciting project applications for the HSIP for Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2013-14 (Cycle 6); and, WHEREAS, the City of Downey desires to construct raised median islands along Firestone Boulevard between Old River School Road and the west city limit in order to decrease the occurrence of illegal mid-block U-turns, left-turn related accidents and other vehicular conflicts along this portion of Firestone Boulevard and to upgrade the existing traffic signals along Paramount Boulevard at the Third Street, Fifth Street and Seventh Street intersections in order to enhance traffic safety, decrease maintenance costs and increase the operational efficiency at each of the intersections; and, [ WHEREAS, agencies are required to submit an application to Caltrans for each project; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. To approve the submittal of the “Firestone Boulevard between Old River School Road and the West City Limit Raised Median Islands” and “Paramount Boulevard at Third Street, Fifth Street and Seventh Street Traffic Signal Upgrades” project applications for HSIP funding. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution. APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 23'd day of July, 2013 //,;'ajl al/Ir– MARIO A.
