Caton, City Manager Peter M. Thorson, City Attorney Judith McDonnell , City Clerk Lee Powell, Assistant City Manager Ron Irwin, Fire Chief Jim Jarrett, Director of Community Services Art Ra ngel , Director of Econ. and Community Development Chris Birch, Director of Personnel Mike Miller, Police Captain Rick Nathan, Police Captain Cindi Lee, Executive Secretary _ ORDINANCES ORDINANCE NO. 960 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY MENDING SECTIONS 2434(a)(6) AND 2438, AND ADDING SECTION 2439 TO THE DOWNEY MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO THE IMPOSITION OF A CURFEW DURING A LOCAL EMERGENCY The Ordinance was read by title only. It was moved by Council Member Lawrence, seconded by Council Member Brazelton, and unanimously carried to waive further reading and adopt. ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS REQUEST PER SECTION 604(a) OF THE DOWNEY CITY CHARTER THAT THE CITY COUNCIL APPROVE THE CITY MANAGER'S APPOINTMENT OF GREGORY C. CALDWELL AS CHIEF OF POLICE Mr. Caton discussed the process by which the applicants for Chief of Police were recruited and interviewed. The top candidate selected was Gregory C. Caldwell, Police Chief of Montclair, and it is recommended Council approve the appointment of Mr. Caldwell. It was moved by Council Member Riley, seconded by Council Member Brazelton, and unanimously carried to approve the appointment of Gregory C. Caldwell as Chief of Police. Council Minutes 3/30/93 (Mj.) REQUEST AUTHORIZATION TO ENTER INTO A NO YEAR EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENT WITH GREGORY C. CALM ELL (36t) Mr. Caton explained ined that Mr. Caldwell • p al well has been the Chief of Police in Montclair for the past nine years. In order to provide him with some security, it is recommended that Council approve a two -year Employment Agreement with him. It was moved by Council Member Brazelton, seconded by Council Member Riley, and unanimously carried to authorize the Mayor to ex ec u to an Emp l oyme nt agreement with Gregory C. Caldwell. Mr. Gregory C. Caldwell thanked the Council for its support, and mentioned he looked forward to working with staff and .the community. Mayor Boggs congratulated Mr. Caldwell on his appointment, and wished him a successful future in the City of Downey. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS: None. ADJOURNMENT: 4:38 p.m. The meeting was adjourned in memory of Mrs. Frances Swearingen, wife of former Mayor /Council Member Lyle Swearingen, to 12 :00 p.m., April 5, 1993, at Gregory's Restaurant in Downey.
