HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 6770 RESOLUTION NO. 6770 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY IN OPPOSITION OF ASSEMBLY BILL 2702 (STATE ASSEMBLYMAN DARRELL STEINBERG) (HOUSING: SECOND UNITS). WHEREAS, the City of Downey recognizes the need for affordable housing; and WHEREAS, the City of Downey understands the importance of establishing sound public policy towards that end; and WHEREAS, there is a need to provide affordable housing at the same pace as the population and economic growth of the State; and WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 2702 would remove the authority of local land use decisions from local government concerning second unit development; and WHEREAS, the City of Downey cannot support any legislation that weakens its ability to control local land use policy; and WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 2702 would eliminate such land use policy control. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY, CALIFORNIA, DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. To express its opposition to Assembly Bill 2702 and urge its defeat by the State Legislature.
