HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 6689 RESOLUTION NO. 6689 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY IN OPPOSITION OF SENATE BILL 18 (STATE SENATOR JOHN BURTON) WHEREAS, the City of Downey recognizes the rites of Native Americans; and WHEREAS, the City of Downey understands the importance of Traditional Tribal Cultural Sites in Native American culture; and WHEREAS, there is a need to protect such Native American Traditional Tribal Cultural Sites; and WHEREAS, Senate Bill 18 would remove the authority of local land use decisions from local government concerning Traditional Tribal Cultural Sites; and WHEREAS, the City of Downey can not support any legislation that weakens its ability to control local land use policy; and WHEREAS, Senate Bill 18 would eliminate such land use policy control. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY, CALIFORNIA, DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. To express its opposition to Senate Bill 18 and urge its defeat by the State Legislature.
